The 2016 museum seaso has started for me with a visit to the A.T.A museum maidenhead.

Hi all,
Thought id sent a few photos of my visit today to the A.T.A Museum at the heritage center in Maidenhead.

A small museum but with loads of detailed information regarding this great service .I was lucky enough to have a private tour from a very knowledgeable volunteer..

On display are uniforms log books, equipment loads of photos and personal artifacts..
Also there is a phone that carries information from 3 former veterans,an interesting listen.

There is also a spitfire simulator that you can take the controls of but need to phone an appointment first..

You can find loads of information (on there 2 computers) set up to view the flying log books of the men and women pilots, incredible to see just how many types of aircraft were listed at the back of each log book in the region of 20 Plus..also on the same computers are interviews with the veterans telling there personal stories of the life in the A.T.A.

Price of entry for adults was for me just £3.50 this enables you a free pass for the rest of the year..

I would say you need to allow around 1 and a half hours to view with more if you was to listen to the video footage photos news clippings that are displayed on there 2 computers..

I always was fascinated with the A.T.A with the likes of Amy Johnson etc.. so for me a good way to get a feel of life in the A.T.A. service..

Hi Keith
Thats Great to hear, i couldn’t believe the amount of hours that these Pilots had covered during there time.. and also the amount of nationalities that were involved. also there ability to jump into any type of aircraft on the day, it could be one or numerous types in just one day.. all they had was a tiny pilots note book to help them on there way, sometimes i feel they were unsung heroes.of helping to keep us in the air.. amazing people.

I can endorse that view, but then I’m biased as my father was in ATA & I have donated his logbook & the wartime photo of him solo & at Ratcliffe.
