The 787 Progress to Commercial Flight Thread

Let’s use this thread to follow the 787’s progress to delivery.

First point, I believe that the nose gear had a problem on the second flight?

I was referring to airplane parking spaces (not car parks) and I still reckon that space fill free up now. It has to make sense, doesn’t it? Planes coming off the production line with nowhere to go for months – like dripping tap into a sink with the plug in.

Whereas, with the planes now being able to leave Everett, even if they come off the line faster they will be able to leave the place instead of being parked up – like a dripping tap in a sink with no plug!

As I see it the next priorities are getting the production rate up while keeping quality high. Boeing has had that problem in the past, was it the late 90’s? I believe they said they could produce 10 a month in Seattle, but I believe they have stated it will take until 2013 to get the rate that high.

It will be interesting to see who “wins” the lawsuit over the non-union CHS plant. Boeing will get production there, but at what cost? I have not seen what the maximum monthly rate at CHS is, but would think 2-3 years from now they could have both lines humming at a high rate and have both engines certified, and both the -8 and -9 certified and the fate of the -10 will be known by then also.

All this work, taken together with the 737NG production rate increase, the 748I, and the 777 upgrade means Boeing should be quite a busy place. So, I agree with other who have said there won’t be any empty parking spaces.

Free parking space – I doubt it

There will be a lot of free parking space at Everett over the coming months…

Free parking space – I doubt it.

For new 787s rolling off the production line the space is already premium and will get worse.

As for employees I doubt if there is going to be any free car parking space either at Everett since the plants in Charleston have been opened to cope with extra production capacity.

The backlog in confirmed orders for Boeing is over 3,000 at present (no different for Airbus mind you)

I doubt it. Anyone no longer needed on the 787 program will be retasked on the 737 and other projects they have. Don’t forget, Boeing need to start work on a 777NG.

It’s been a long time coming, but she’s certified. Finally, the deliveries can commence in short order.

I have been informed by a reliable source this morning that this flight will not operate.

Further, it seems that no-one at Monarch or Thomson’s Manchester operations knows anything about a flight plan, slot booking or stand request.

We shall see……

You lucky fudruckers! I wonder what century we will see the jolly 787 in South African skies? Maybe after Zuma endorses condom use :diablo: I know that Ethiopian has ordered some so the future may not be as bleak as it seems. SAA is firmly in bed with Airbus (the only times they have ever posted a profit is when they’ve sold off their assets viz. Boeings)

Lucky MAN & LHR spotters

Lucky MAN & LHR spotters

The airliner will arrive at Manchester Airport direct from Seattle on the morning of 3rd September, where it will be shown to customers Monarch Airlines and ThomsonFly.

Then, on 4th September it will be flown to London Heathrow airport. Supposedly this is in order to demonstrate the aircraft to British Airways.

It is very likely going to be in ANA livery

Boeing 787 Dreamliner finishes certification testing – RR engines

Boeing 787 Dreamliner finishes certification testing (Video)

http://www.boeing.com/Features/2011/08/bca_certification_finish_08_16_11.html

“In every case, the airplane has achieved everything that we desired.” Mike Sinnett, 787 Chief Project Engineer

“To look at all those features working seamlessly and you understand all the work it took to get there, you’re just so proud of the tenaciousness of the team that put it together.” Capt. Mike Carriker, 787 Chief Pilot

To date, the 787 test fleet has flown just over 1,700 flights, racked up more than 4800 flight hours and performed more than 25,000 test conditions.

The flight marked the completion of flight tests required for type certification of the 787 Dreamliner with Rolls-Royce engines.

Flight testing continues for 787s with GE engines and for Boeing test points not related to certification.
