A funny thing to be immortalised in a painting called ‘ace of aces’ when shooting down scores of allied aircraft in the name of the nazi state (whether he agreed with it personally or not).

I’m not necessarily condemning him as that’s a step too far without a much greater knowledge and understanding of this particular story than I have but there is something that makes me uneasy in seeing romantic sunset paintings like this when we know that they were supporting a state so repugnant and dangerous as that of Nazi Germany.

Not something I would have on my wall!
