BAGHDAD, Iraq – Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al-Qaida’s leader in Iraq who led a bloody campaign of suicide bombings and kidnappings, has been killed in an air strike, U.S. and Iraqi officials said Thursday, adding his identity was confirmed by fingerprints and a first-hand look at his face. It was a major victory in the U.S.-led war in Iraq and the broader war on terror.
Do you really think Zarkawi is gone now? How much credability is there in this claim? If true will his death see an end to the insurgent activities in Iraq?
What you guys think?

Hope it will turn around and unite more Iraqi people to open their eyes and rise in resistance….
What is your latitude and longitude? Please be as exact as possible… :diablo:

Great news that this scum and his gang of killers are dead. 🙂 Many in Iraq seem pleased about his demise which is the more important point.
Will there be another scumbag ready to take his place? Sure, and there will be another 500lb bomb for him as well.

So PII,
how does that make you any better than the baying mobs cheering “Allah akhbar” as the remains of the Apache Longbow crew were dragged from the crash wreckage recently or the four Blackwater contractors were strung up from that bridge? It’s exacty the same human emotion that you’re tapping into.
I’m definitely with Flex on this one. He got what was coming to him, certainly, but please excuse me from the celebrations; either of his death or his martyrdom, whichever extreme you look at this event from.
Steve Rush
I agree to this sentiment.
That this dude won’t be able to strike anymore is great news, but celebrating at his dead body just sounds too similar to the allah akhbar you hear when they cut a throat, or drag those poor pilots.
If we lower ourselves to the level of the terrorists, then they have won.

Considering the past record of Al-Qaeda leadership history, their is always someone their to take the top position. Considering the report posted up regarding Al-Qaeda website confirming the news is true, then this means the next in line must have been already calling the shots regarding which action to take and which not too. What you guys think about it?

Violence doesn’t solve violence.
Do your countrymen who fought the Nazis agree with that?
Without a bit of violence, on the part of your countrymen and the allies who fought (and died) to liberate your country, I doubt if you’d be free to make such a statement today.

Something to note: What were the 500 pounders used against the building al Zarqawi was in? It appears the roof was more or less intact and the walls had caved in. Was this to preserve evidence because at least his face appears only marginally affected. Normally when weapons of this magnitude are used against flesh, vaporization is a likely result.
The vid of impact and after effects (especially the after effects) looks a bit unusual. Perhaps there were high winds in the area?
My impression is the intent was to concuss the building into rubble in order to obtain evidence al Zarqawi was killed.

that assault rifle was an American M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon produced by Fabrique Nationale, and having fired it more times than i can count i am not surprised it jammed on him, it’s a piece of shίt
Can not be as bad as the M60???

On a funny note did anyone see the video of him attempting to fire an assault rifle? He fired a few rounds and then it jammed or something and someone else had to reach in and pull back hammer so he could fire it again I suppose. It was like he didn’t know what he was doing……some hero……

Sometimes violence up to and including deadly force is the only available option, but let’s not kid ourselves that it’s either delightful or enjoyable, eh?
I can certainly agree with this statement.

The guy cutted some throats in Iraq for his favourite TV channel, he planned bloody massacres all around, and he got what he deserved, a couple of Mk-82´s, with this fanatics there´s no possible dialogue, that´s all.

Besides, when someone likes him beheads a family member of yours who wasn’t armed to begin with, I’d like for you to get back to me on that whole “not enjoying someone’s death” platform you’re sitting on. I’m pretty sure you’d take great delight in it….
That’s not a very likely scenario, is it? There’s immensely more chance of a family member being offed by a drunken driver, to be honest.
You might want to ponder on the difference between delight and satisfaction. I assure you that such a difference exists.
Read BME330’s statement again…….that’s how you deal with these people.
Yes, and I’m sure that the likes of Al Qaeda express similar sentiments about the desirability of despatching the “infidel” with extreme prejudice.
The only 100% predictable thing about the use of violence is that it will breed more violence. That’s a fact from Nome to Rome, chaps.
Sometimes violence up to and including deadly force is the only available option, but let’s not kid ourselves that it’s either delightful or enjoyable, eh?

By not being coward I mean leading an insurgent campaign against the mightiest military force mankind has ever known. Well, if that ain’t courageous enough…
I will restrain from commenting your excited reactions regarding his death since I feel this is the return to the moral middle age. One man’s heroes are other man’s villains.
*If I were born in Palestine, I would have most likely became a member of some terrorist organization* – Ehud Barak
You know the old story: hostile soldiers who play by the rules and lose the fight are called “brave men” even by their enemies. If the enemy is a tricky guy and really beats you with brain instead of tanks he is often called anything but brave. People are bad loosers.
However, the “loss” of this particular individual must be greeted, especially by the people in Iraq. Finally we can expect that not 400 million USD spy satellite but a 50 USD informant gave the lead. Al-Zargawi lost backing by its own people. First due to insane violence (some moslem people might hate the US, but they still have sense for humanity), second because he increasingly targeted random targets, especially Iraqi people.
good that he is gone. I guess if things carry on it is only a matter of time before the void created by his death is filled.
That is not a must. Possibly something changes. But it will need some change in thinking, especially for USA. I am a little bit optimistic, that at least the amplitude of terror will damp out slightly.

True, However waiting to hit the guy with a group of his underlings around him was a class move, most likely took out the guy who would have replaced him in the short term at least. 🙂
If they operate withing many cells, then it is not likely. But who would know.

well truth isent always so black and white…and red …and green in this instance. But that sure is certain that US officals have benefitted intrestingly lot from his ramblings…maybe its conspiracy, maybe its profesional media manipulation, who knows…i dont know, they dont know, You dont know it, ….or do you?
and I expect Iraqis to rise against what? comon what do want me to say? something that migth give your good change to toss around your sincere believes of ‘liberty’ and ‘freedom’….if you want to do that, You can as well as imagine some good answers to flame against by yourself, you dont need me for it, do you
Before you attempt a long drawn out debate, please get a better handle on your English because I didn’t understand much of that post……
Either do that or just type shorter sentences that are more to the point….
Personally, I pity those who can take delight in looking at anyone’s dead body.
I appreciate your kind thoughts, but they aren’t necessary. I’m doing quite well actually.
Besides, when someone likes him beheads a family member of yours who wasn’t armed to begin with, I’d like for you to get back to me on that whole “not enjoying someone’s death” platform you’re sitting on. I’m pretty sure you’d take great delight in it….
and kill one terrorist today, so that 10 new terrorists will exists tomorrow. This is precisely what the United States doesn’t seem to understand. Violence doesn’t solve violence.
You’ll pardon me while I go setup the negotiating tables so you and sit down with Bin Laden and have a resonable face-to-face discussion about your persuading him to stop this senseless violence……….
Terrorists don’t listen to reason, they don’t understand anything but a bullet to the brain. Nothing will ever stop terrorism so I don’t understand why anyone thinks that is possible. There will always be nuts around like Zarqawi and Bin Laden….it’s just a fact of life nowadays. The only thing we can do is to try and reduce the number of successful attacks…..which is precisely the goal of counterintelligence operatives and operations like Enduring Freeom. Rooting out these people, killing as many of them as possible, and stopping the ones who are still alive from comitting any successful attacks is the order of the day.
If anyone thinks they have a better way to stop terrorism please let me know…..
I promise you it won’t have to do with white doves and round table discussions…..

Somehow flex I rather expected this reaction from you as I’m sure you expected the reaction I posted out of me…..
How can you say he was not a coward? He sent many people to die after telling them they would become a martyr. In other words he poisoned the minds of those who didn’t know any better, and used their ignorance against them when convincing them to carry out their suicide bombings and other such atrocities…..beheadings come to mind. There’s nothing brave about sawing off the head of an innocent reporter….
All terrorists should die a long and painful death. My only regret about Zarqawi is that he likely didn’t suffer as long as I would have liked for him to suffer.
On a funny note did anyone see the video of him attempting to fire an assault rifle? He fired a few rounds and then it jammed or something and someone else had to reach in and pull back hammer so he could fire it again I suppose. It was like he didn’t know what he was doing……some hero……
The other great thing is how they keep showing his dead face all over television. Funny thing is they don’t show the rest of his body……of course with a pair of 500-lb. bombs he probably didn’t have any body left. 🙂
