The April 2002 edition of “Flypast” featured an article by Squadron Leader Gerry Pye on the Augsburg Raid. As my father piloted one of the Lancasters of 44 squadron which took part in the raid, I read the article with great interest, and subsequently purchased a print of Gordon Sage’s excellent painting entitled “The Augsburg Raid” which features my father’s aircraft.
As the print has been much admired by other members of the family, I recently tried to contact Lowood Arts and Media to obtain a further print if one were still available. Unfortunately my efforts to contact the firm have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know whether they are still in business, and if so, how to get in touch with them?
Alternatively, could anyone suggest an alternative source for this print, or any other contact who might be able to help?

I am the artist in question!
I realise this was posted a long time ago but as I am the artist in question I thought I’d better write something!

Dear Ian, sorry to disappoint you but I haven’t been to Beaumont le Roger (yet).
My father never showed any inclination to return to the location of the events, I think the loss of his friends in the other planes was just too much to address. One year after the raid, when he was a POW he also had to deal with the death of his only brother who was flying with the Fleet Air Arm. At the end of the war he just wanted to get home and pick up the threads. He kept in touch with his crew, with whom he still maintained a paternalistic relationship ( he was approx 10 years their senior) until his latter years.
He is buried in a little country churchyard in Trellech, Monmouthshire.
Bert Dowty was the front gunner in my fathers plane, and I understand he died last June. I imagine that the commemoration of the raid will eventually lapse .
My husband and I are taking an extended trip through France next month and Beaumont le Roger is on our itinerary.
Best wishes

Hi Glynis, I can’t help you with a source for the print, but would like to ask if you are one of the two sisters who were in Beaumont le Roger for the 2000 commemoration, organised by Bert Dowty and William Magne ?
