The Bader Spitfire location?

After rewatching the fine Channel 4 program on the effort to locate the crash site of WC Douglas Baders Spitfire … has there been any more efforts to explore more crash sites in France ?

Thanks

Thank you indeed, Blue Noser!

Always been fascinated by the story of George Preddy, too. A sad end for this outstanding fighter leader.

Andy thanks for the info & book link !

Andy:

Thank You for the book link and info… really enjoyed the documentary and the way it was put together. Work in television news over here in the states and can see your team put in much time and effort on this very outstanding program. Some first class detective work on the program as to what really happened on that day. A most complex individual the Wing Commander was. A friendly fire situation in the heat of combat ! Found the book and look forward to reading it. Congrats on your past work in recovering aircraft wrecks and giving the pilots helmet at the conclusion of the program to his widow….. a fine gesture indeed ! Perhaps one day you’ll be able to find that Spitifire ! In some ways Wing Commader Bader & Maj George E Preddy Jr of the 352nd shared a similar fate..botjh downed by friendly fire in the heat of combat. Sadly the Major case was fatal. Continued success in your work…… again thanks for taking us along on a great mystery !

A salute from:

Sadly, I am afraid that there was just insufficient space to cover this fascinating aspect of the story. Worth a book in its own right…..! I can feel the birth pangs of such a book coming on even as I write this.

Hang on. Is that a Stork delivering the synopsis?

Shameless plug follows…….

This is not the place for a discussion of the Home Secretary’s expense claims. 😡

I am afraid that I am not really qualified to answer that question!;)

However, post the Ch4 programme I was commissioned by Grub Stree to produce a book on “Bader’s Last Fight” which enabled a much more in-depth look at the whole enigma and in which I was able to tell the story comprehensively and come up with my own final version of where his Spitfire fell…..and this, by the way, differs from the Ch4 version.

Do I hear a collective Bader groan from forum-ites? 😮

I think this is one for that very unqualified and quite frankly amateurish aviation archaeologist, Tangmere 1940 !
