" The Bang "

I’m really worried. I read in the papers they are doing a test and black holes could swallow up the earth, do you think that it will happen?

they said 10 days the world will end.

Oh LoL, the A was Agreement. I thought you were calling me an ****ho*e.

Cheers.

Oh no, I’d have fallen upon him like a ton of bricks from a dizzyingly great height if he’d done that!

All is well. 🙂

There doesn’t need to be a practical benefit.

We do it because we are the curious ape, old shape.
We simply have to know what makes things work. It’s in our genes.

Whilst we do have the curiosity, there is more to this than we mortals are told.
Curiosity would not draw the trillions of bucks required for such projects. Such research doesn’t get funding unless there is a better weapon at the end of it.
We didn’t go to the Moon to see what it was made of, that’s a spin-off benefit.
I could have gone into science, I was top at Physics, a bit of a geek. But, I found out that unless you are the head of a project, with a budget….the salary is on a par with a fast food no-stars.

Ah, that question:

What did CERN ever do for us?

D’you really want me to tell you or are you content to Google it.

I love irony. 🙂

I adore all this science research.
But, in this case, once we know what happened in the fist nano second after the Big Bang, what are we going to do with the knowledge? How will it make my/our life better? We’ll still be paying £1.09 a litre for petrol, 75% too much for energy and 100% too much for water.

Thats a speed you cant even imagine

That means the particles going in one direction are doing 425000 kph or about 265625 mph. Just thinking of speeds like that makes my brain hurt.
Anyway the good news in case you haven’t heard is they shut it down again after they found a problem with it. Could they not have found something more worthwhile to spend all the money on?

I kind of support you DazDM, but there were 7 stories written from as long ago as 1981. I was in looneyfornia at the time, and this was a discussion point.
As for sequels in general, we never seem to enjoy them. But books…….what if Agatha Christie had stopped at just 1, for example. Is it snobbery between the Celluloid and Cellulose?

Yeah because everything I say is ;):D Cant belive you dont like Star Wars , Your not a Star Trek fan are you?

I dislike the whole franchise because you could have had the first film (sorry, Episode 4  ) on its own and it would stand out as an action/sci-fi film like no other. Evil galactic empire controls the universe, gets its ass kicked by a handful of human rebels and a bear with learning difficulties. It’s almost the Battle of Britain in space. Instead, he makes it this big saga that, by the end, becomes almost a rehash of the first film (come on, ANOTHER Death Star?!). What, did the original not make enough money?

What makes it worse is that he followed those three with three more SUCKfests that were (in the words of Tim Bisley) no more than jumped-up firework displays of toy adverts.

Not to mention the HUGE amount of money he’s managed to squeeze out of millions of people with umpteen rereleases of the original trilogy in their various formats – did we REALLY need all that fannying about with CGI to improve the first one? Um, ever heard the phrase “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it!”, George?

So, in short, no, I don’t like Star Wars. :diablo:

With a mean surface temperature of minus 150°C, 300mph winds, and the continuous emission of really intense radiation, it wouldn’t be interesting for very long …. :diablo:

Oh just like a normal day then:D

Just when you think it can’t get any worse….. 🙁

At least we get to see the Christmas Doctor Who 😀

The LHC has broken – still seems churlish to not expect small teething troubles after a 13 year build. Apparently a wire overheated and a section of magnets failed causing temperatures to rocket by 100C – which from its working temperature still leaves it colder than Jupiter. See BBC Report and The Guardian

It could be next year before they can start colliding, making black holes and dragging the world down into a singularity.

We’re still doomed, but we get to have Christmas first.

Well not land on Jupiter but to fly in with the clouds and the red spot that would be intresting…
