The Belgians are with flying Spitfire once again…OO-XVI

Eric Dessouroux reports from the Aviation Society of Antwerp web site:-

“Great news, SL721 made its first flight in Belgium this morning with its new owner (Kris Van Den Bergh) at the controls ! SL721 is now registered OO-XVI in our country.”

I believe they may be looking at a Legends booking after speaking to them on Facebook.

I saw SL721 on overflying the airfield it was based at in Canada when I was on the Red Arrows in 2002. I couldn’t wait to get my jet serviced and go and see it! The engineer of it told me a bit about it and it’s blue scheme, asked if I wanted to sit in it, but I really needed to saddle up and get going. It looked utterly gorgeous in the blue. Happy days!

Glad to see it’s been flown, and looking terrific!

I have many memories of flying beside SL721 — all good ones!

Here’s one…

It might have flown in the last 20 but a couple of years ago he posted a video on that was titled the first engine start in 17 years so it’s bloody close

Kermits Spit isn’t currently airworthy! I dont think it’s flown for around 20.years!

Crikey….

Mind you I’ll forever think of it as Northolt’s Spitfire, not Kermit’s.

Kermit was trying to get the Spitfire flying again a couple of years back, but things seem to have gone quiet on that front.

SL721 in those colours would be great, though. Wouldn’t take much doing, either.

Kermits Spit isn’t currently airworthy! I dont think it’s flown for around 20.years! It’s taxiable and isn’t far off airworthy status now……she’s had to have a bit of work on either the fuel or coolant system I cant remember which! There’s a few videos of Kermits on the spit on YouTube if you search Kermit Weeks Spitfire

Is that Kermit Weeks’s Spitfire, Mark12? I remember seeing a picture of her in Flypast when I was a teenager. Didn’t realise she still has those markings. Is she airworthy?

I had the privilege of watching her put Belgian air beneath her wings for the first time. Beautiful aircraft and beautifully flown! That wing shape had been missing from our skies for too long.

Good to see her again, I’m sure many will be thrilled and inspired, the most original Spitfire flying I believe.
