The bike thread.

As we’ve had the car thread, i thought we should have a motorcycle thread2! Pretty easy really, anything to do with motorcycling in general goes in here. I’ve owned a 1969 Honda c100 that my DAD had as his first bike that we restored, a Suzuki Beemish 350 scrambler, Italjet moto scrambler, a Kawasaki KH125 (that i passed my test on last month so yay 4me!) and now im polishing up a Kawasaki LTD 454 to use next. None of these machines cost more that £300 to buy and £256 to insure- even for a new 16 year old rider. Not bad considering my mate paid £900 insurance (3rd party, fire and theft) for a battered old fiesta!! Hehe.

My dad has always been into bikes so I got the bug early – YamahaTY80 , TY175 ( both are in my Avatar ) , 2 Ossa 250s , an Ossa 350 , 2 Kawasaki KX250s , on the road Kawasaki ZZR600 , Kawa ZZR1000 , Yamaha YZF 750R , Yamaha YZF750SP , Ducati 900SS ( crashed – still own it ) ,Ducati 888 ( still own it ) , 4 Honda VFR 400s ( all smashed ) , Suzuki GSXR750 SRAD , Yamaha R1 ( long term loan – smashed) , Honda VFR800 , and many others which didn’t last long – Yamaha V-Max springs to mind , ouch .
Trackdays , I have an ex-Supersports CBR600 which is reasonably well known ( I will refrain to name drop ) and an Aprilia RS250 . Anybody who fancies arranging a meet at one of Jamie Whits Trackdaze ??? .

Injury is the bad thing really… I came off because of some diesel on a roundabout and broke my collarbone in 3 places which needed 7pins and 2 plates putting in to correct. My girlfriend’s parents have forbidden her 2 pillion with me now, even though it wasn’t my fault at all. Due to financial constraints ive bought a non-runner (and very rusty) Kawasaki LTD 454 (which i believe was imported from California) and im doing it up now hopefully to be ready to go in 2weeks.
My dads had bikes since he was 9 and currently has 14- 3 complete and running, 6 complete but rusting, 2 in various stages of development and 3 in the attic at home (disassembled, mind you!) They are mainly old British bikes like Triumph Trident, Bonneville, T21 etc but he also has a Moto Guzzi Ladola, lambretta scooter, a cotton and an AJS of some kind.

I cut my teeth on a variety of 50’s, 100’s and 125’s in the early 80’s and then went to 4 wheels. In 1997 I took my DA course on a GN124 and a Suzuki GS500.

My first “real” bike was a 600 Bandit that I near wrote off after 3000 miles and 6 months! As soon as the injuries healed (4 weeks – broken arm and lots of bruises) I picked up a brand new GSXR600WW that I owned until about 3 months ago. At the moment I don’t really miss it as there’s too much else going on at home and at work but I’ll probably start pining next year when things calm down! During the same period my other half had a CBR600 (1989 model – too heavy for her), SV650 (not fast enough) and an R6 (she loved that).

I would really like a trackday bike – roads aren’t fun. I’ve lost too many friends and aquaintences recently on the roads, mostly through poor car drivers (how about someone changing the wheel on their caravan on a blind bend. Rider paraplegic, pillion killed) 🙁

Had a few bikes, finishing with a GSXR750WN that I sold in 1995 with just 4,000 miles on the clock.

I’ve really missed my bike. Then a couple of weeks ago I decided to get rid of the Daimler Ferret that’s been slowly rusting in my back garden for a few years. Amazingly I got over £2,500 for it and devoted that money to buying my first ever secondhand bike, a Ducati ST2, for more or less exactly what I got for the Ferret.

Cursing the weather now. I don’t want to be using the car to cover the 23 miles across the Suffolk countryside every morning, I want to be on the Duke 🙁

I had a Kawasaki AR 125 and my mate had a VFR 750 and 800, nice bikes.

He ended up crashing the 750 when he was coming round a bend. There was a car pulling out of a side street, never seen him and he got slammed in between the bike and the car. Broken leg and broken bike.

Now he has a Hyabusa…..nice.

I’ve got a Vamaha XV535 Virago sort of stored at my sisters… I hope to get to work on it some time in the not too distant future. Would like a bigger bike as I was out riding the bike when I stopped riding – kids = lack or funds…

I learned to ride on a CZ125 – not the quickest thing in the world by any stretch of the imagination but bloody rugged… Got taken out when this old bloke came out on to the dual carriage way without looking – When I got the bike home after it’s recovery I put the kill switch to live, found neutral and she started first time…

Should have had my dad’s old Suzuki GS650GT but one thing another meant I never got it but I was quoted at the time £1600+ insurance on a value of £400!!!!!
