The 'Black Friday' Beaufighter recovery from Norwegian Fjord.

The loss of 9 Beaufighters and 1 Mustang on ‘Black Friday’ 9th Feb 1945 is well documented I believe. I’m a sound mixer and have just mixed a short ‘promo’ for the UK production company that now has the rights to the Canadian documentary made a few years ago regarding the dives to recover parts from these planes.
This YouTube clip from a Norwegian source shows this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXeIXAHDLF0
and links like this:
http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/14w-14e/nr-sp/index-eng.asp?cat=126&id=6503

In the promo footage a whole fuselage with wings is seen being lifted out of the fjord but, not having yet seen the Canadian doc, I can find no other material regarding the recovery of anything other that parts including a tail wheel.
Any one any info on anything such as the large Beaufighter section?

Salvage

Hi folks;I saw this doc. They use the diver from the’Sea Hunters’,
but the host was rather rude and pompus. The show checks out
5 beaus, one that hit the hillside, the others in the drink.
What bothered me was that the host kept talking about
‘private intrests’ that had him doing the survey and recovery.
Who are they? Wouldn’t any of our members be honest
on who is backing such an effort, can anyone shed some lite
on this.It sounds like these intrests are this side of the pond.

Thanks for that…it’s the same. I didn’t really believe that Beaufighters were found and had decided that the pic was the Fw-190 that was well documented. Now I’ll have to ask them if they are suggesting that more has been found than the tailwheel and a few bits.

That’s the Fw-190A-3 Wk.Nr.0125425 which was recovered from saltwater in 2006.

This is reported to be a Beaufighter and I’m fascinated to know if this much of one has been found. Very dark pics I know.

I haven’t been able to find any more evidence on-line so far.

Thanks Peter,

Certainly a ‘Beaufighter’ looking wreck is craned out of the water in the video promo so I’ll investigate further.
At least I managed to get the producer to change the wording so that the words “a dogfight” and “the fighters” were not included! We can’t have a ‘dog fight’ in WW2 or calling ‘Beaufighters of Coastal Command’ as ‘just fighters’!
The production company now working on it have a good record as they have worked on lots of ‘wildlife’ and you have to be very careful in that area as well.

I watched the Canadian documentary but there was nothing rasied up on that show larger than the tailwheel?
