The Black Knight

Thanks for all the replies. Here’s the photo of the 3 T-33’s at Duxford.

The square box under the T-bird fuselage looks like a standard T-33 item – a “Travel pod”. For the pilots’ toothbrush, clean underwear etc. Usually only put on for cross country flights. Did the “Black Knight” use smoke in his display? Seems to be black “dots” on front of the “pod”? If you ever pass Karup Airstation the T-33 exhibited at the south gate museum has a travel pod mounted.

G-WGHB is now in storage with Tempest Two Ltd at Gainsborough in Lincolnshire,although I’m not sure that it’s stored on site.

The other was N12420 (RCAF21200). Bought in Italy in 76, it flew to America late 77, and disappeared

I only knew of a second T-33 until last night when i came across a photo of Ormond kneeling in front of 3 T-33’s at Duxford. 2 were bare metal. I know 1 was G-WGHB but what was the other one’s reg number?

Which is interesting really as the second t-33 never got around to being painted up – it was just bare metal as far as I recall.

I am currently absolutely gutted as i have just spent my savings and there is an auction at the RAF museum at Hendon tomorrow and there is an original oil painting by Roland Wong for sale called the Black Knight. It depicts 2 T-33’s flying over a castle that could be in Germany. Valued at £500 – £600.
I don’t suppose anyone knows if there was a print done of it. My guess is that it was an original done most probably for Haydan-Baillie.

From memory I think the pod under the fuselage was a smoke generator.

Or would you be able to get good quality colour photocopy of the package. I will pay full costs, and if your going to the Duxford show next weekend make the deal.

The parts that I scanned were originally from a publicity pack that was put out when OHB first came back to the UK. Only place I can think there may still be some around is with ARCO at Duxford as they were with OHB many many years ago. I have one pic of the T33 from this pack however it looses so much quality when you try to get it’s size down to a level where you can post it here it’s not worth it. I could email it however
