The Cat

11:15, sitting on the front lawn threading new line on the strimmer when I heard the sound of engines and low and behold the Cat roared over flying quite low and heading south, what a sight, even though no-one passing by even bothered to look up.
Wheres she off to?

If you look carefully you will notice that these are larger then the original ones. So the old style blisters will not fit.

I know. I was lucky enough to meet the chap who fitted them, and the other bulged, smoked windows when I was travelling on Vancouver Island and the Cat was still parked up there after the failure of the previous venture.

Yes, I was still cutting the grass when it came back at about 5:30, same height and position, only heading north.
Nice day out, more interesting than cutting the grass, wonder what the fuel bill was.

Its indeed an certification isseu. And yes the bisters arn’t correct. If you look carefully you will notice that these are larger then the original ones. So the old style blisters will not fit.

Any plans to convert her nose from the aero, to the proper one with the turret?

I’d say not likely, as it’s a certification issue. There was a discussion about it some time ago, twice.

Here’s the link.

The blisters aren’t ‘right’ either, being single piece smoked plastic, but they may be preferred by the operators!

The went to Le Touquet for the Day. She is now fully ready for the 2006 airshow season. Starting with the ILA in a weeks time.

I may have missed something here. Is the Catalina going to an airshow in France and returning to the UK or did someone in France purchase her?

Dennis

As far as I am aware it was just a day trip to France and as ‘Old Fart’ has said ‘She come over Southend soon after 5pm heading back to Duxford…’,

Probably stocking up on duty free’s 😀

She was parked in her usual spot when I arrived at Duxford this morning but soon moved to the airfield for her trip to France.

What cat?

The white one with a big tail that likes water.

Unfortunately too much water has suddenly arrived from the sky and strimming has been curtailed, and I wanted to test my repairs made to the strimmer with Meccano, marvellous stuff, holds all my various bits of machinery together, what would we do without it.

She spent most of Thursday afternoon flying around and doing circuits and bumps along with 4 Spitfires!
