I would assume your on your way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Can you keep an eye open to see if the Hotel named the Grand Canyon Squire is still there,

Sorry Jim,already been there, seen that, but an internet search shows the hotel’s still in business.

I remember in the early eighties, filling hessian sandbags, building around pill boxes etc, then applying a cement ‘wash’ with a stipple brush which water proofed and prolonged the life of the structure.

The basic idea first came about during early WWII.
The Ctesiphon Hut was basically constructed by erecting a hessian tent then covering it in a thin coating of cement and water, after the internal tent structure was removed it became a hard self supporting building. They had an odd ‘soft’ appearance to them, but had proper windows and doors, and were about Nissen hut sized.
At least one of these survived at RAF Wethersfield in to the late 1980s, where they where used as a guardroom, workshops, and stores.

What a wonderful invention, which will be really useful.
There are some interesting news items on the same page.
I particularly like “Exploding watermelons in China “,but my favourite is ” Man eats 25,000th hamburger “,and he records them on a calendar !

Thanks for that, Scott. There’s not a lot to do in Flagstaff,AZ,apart from listening to Mr. Bee making phone calls trying to retrieve the book he left on a train yesterday.
I’m just waiting for the moment when he realises that the calls have cost him more than the book 😀

Anne, I got booked in Flagstaff for driving 2, yes 2 MPH over the limit. If your in Flagstaff, I would assume your on your way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Can you keep an eye open to see if the Hotel named the Grand Canyon Squire is still there,
Jim.
