I wonder if any of the missing “liberated” items from the Dornier have been returned?. I do remember seeing a picture of a complete nose glazing for a Do17Z that had been in a barn in France on this forum sometime back. I think it was posted by Tangmere 1940.

Unlikely to have been ‘liberated’ from this Dornier though?

Well, i did visit it on Saturday and though dissapointed that there was not much to see from a visitors point of view, but we have to look at the bigger picture and look nforward to seeing it in 3 years time on display !

Wow, that has cleaned up well even compared with when I last saw it in November. It will be excellent if the museum can display this fuselage the correct way up, with one of the nose glasings attached to the front.

Were local so can get up regularly, each time you see it there seems to be more uncovered so must assume the lemons are working

It’s cleaned up quite a bit since I saw it in January!

The Missus and I walked up to the outline in the car park and were both thinking “I thought it’d be bigger than this” – then we stood at opposite wingtips and both went “Blimey – that’s one flipping great wing!”. It’s a real slab.

For all of you that still think that you’ll fall off the edge of the world if you venture outside the M25…

I love the Halifax, I wish they could find more, Brooklands have R for Robert, another out of the drink achievement.
I think the last few days storms would of done a lot more damage to the Dornier, so infact they saved it !

I bet there are many within the RAF Museum hierarchy that wish the thing had never been found though. It will suck up a huge amount of money and resources and I’m sure that, just as with the Halifax, there will still be debate in 40 years time as to what to do with it and how to display it.

Too true

Just imagine all the crap so called modern art they could pay out for “like that bit of ex Alton Towers rollercoaster parked outside the entrance door LMAO” instead of spending it on historic relics.

It isn’t at Hendon (as per the thread title) but is at Cosford (per your post). There is an outline of one painted in the car park at Hendon though.

You can get closeb up to a steamed-up, fishy-smelling polytunnel, but it is not really photographable as the tunnel is covered in condensation and spray misters are running all the time. The Hampden is in the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre, which is closed to the public apart from one week a year in November.
