The Dutch say 'Phuk' off.

After previous concerns with Phuket Air, this has now happened.

Almost from the get-go Phuket has had bad press. Fortunately, for them, the press has for now been limited to those that had a special interest in aviation. Once the news about this gets mainstream you can probably finish them of. Had it been an isolated incident there would have been no problem. But Phuket has had a load of incidents.

  • Problems with passengers getting scared to (or from?) LGW.
  • Treatment of above passengers that was shameful.
  • Passenger cabins that looked as though they had not been cared for in over a year. I’ve seen photos that would even make me wonder whether I should fly them. And normally I don’t judge an airline solely by the looks of their planes.
  • Pilots that lack timely medical check-ups.
  • Completely outside the control of Phuket Airways, but the tsunami disaster struck the island of Phuket heavily. This will no doubt have affected tourism to that island considerably.
  • Phuket will have to arrange other transport for their passengers. Gonna cost them a lot. Also, with the new EU legistlation those passengers may demand money as compensation and damages. Considering all flights till at least May 15th (they hope to get their license back by then) that may be a lot of passengers and money.

Some more bits of information I heard. It would appear that Phuket will move their flights to BRU. This will at least get their passengers somewhat nearish to AMS and it is a European destination that can be made profitable. So they hope anyway. AMS was allegedly very succesful, so BRU should also be succesful considering the proximity of BRU to AMS.

Phuket has already started to get their rights to AMS returned. They hope to get them back by the 15th of May.

Probably in need of investment to bring aircraft up to requirments to fly and regenerate generally then could bounce back IMO.

I take it the airline still flies to Dubai? If so, then this is their only longer haul route, or more appropriately, medium haul. I think they are really going to struggle offering domestic flights within Thailand and to local cities within Asia.

It’s a good job you didn’t try and spell “Gulpener Korenwolf” then….. 😉

Phuket Air do seem to be on somewhat of a downward spiral at the moment.

What’s the prognosis for their long-term future?

If they get their act together they have every chance of bouncing back.

First London Gatwick and now Amsterdam. They had such huge plans for Amsterdam, too. Surely, this has the potential to finish Phuket Air.

I taught you better then that! It’s Grolsch! Or Boekelsch if you are from Groenlo and are still pissed at Grolsch. Also, I thought you some other words too…. which I probably should not repeat here.

Indeed you did! Unfortunately, I cannot remember them! I’m trying to perfect all the ‘nice’ Portuguese words, at the moment. My apologies for misspelling Grolsch. That’s unacceptable. 😮

The translation is rather poor. The gest of it is that the pilot did not have his medical checked up. This, as well as other incidents, led to the inspection revoking their landing rights. 165 people are now stranded in thailand. Not known how they can come back.
