Yeah, your right!
Very disturbing.

lack of safety devices, and a very likely unapproved smelter!

Would have been nice if they saved a few.
You know, just in case someone actually wanted a lawn ornament!

I always imagined that airframes would have been broken down further to aid removal of steel, copper and other likely contaminants rather than just dipping such a big chunk of TBM straight into the pot …

Me too. Thats why I found the picture so interesting that it got its own thread, even if it really should have been in the scrapyard thread ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s why it’s so easy to get TBM brakes to put on your P-47……

Best thing for it :dev2:

Don’t know what the fuss is all about – one less aeroplane to worry about, and they removed the crew :dev2:

I think what sealand tower is getting at is the current tech for recycling composite materials… Cant quite understand how you recycle (efficiently) Carbon fibre…

Aluminium – Melt it
CF – ???

That’s a virtue of aeroplanes…they’re recyclable. Wonder how future scrappies will manage with a Boeing 787?

There is quite often programs on documentary channel about how they break up big airliners its quite an art, allot of stuff goes back into new aircraft.
