The end of the line for Loganair Air Ambulance?

A decision will be taken today as to who to award the contract for running Scottish Air Ambulance services will be given to.

Already run for many years by Loganair and it’s fleet of Islanders, it’s expected the new contract starting in 2006 will be awarded to preferred bidder ‘Gama Aviation’ who will replace the current 4 Islanders with two Beech King Air’s and also incorporate Scottish Air Ambulance’s Inverness based helicopter operation.

The Scottish Air Ambulance operations centre will be moved from Dundee to the south of England. There are already concerns that the new aircraft will be less flexible operationally than the Islanders, causing problems for those living in rural and hard to access areas in Scotland.
