The end of the line for the Dominie

I was told yesterday that the DOminie is also being retired from RAF use this month, not as glamerous as the Harrier but surely its worth a mention. When is the final flight?

So Cosford, and potentially Duxford, get one flown in FOC, despite the fact the aircraft are considered ‘unserviceable’ and Newark would have to buy one?

That doesn’t strike me as fair.

The fund idea has been noted and if required it would most likely be done via this site where safe online donations can already be made to NAM. πŸ™‚

However, so far there’s been very little indication of airframe availability as mentioned in Posts #21, #24 and #52 on here.

Approaches have been made over recent years but nothing has been forthcoming – apart from a few recent whispers of airframe storage! πŸ˜‰

At this point I would reiterate the first line of the above post!! πŸ˜‰

Nice Farewell for last flight!

Very lovely take off, fly by and departure from Cranwell this morning by a Dominie, the noise was scary as it was already almost a distant memory! I presume this was the ac going to RAFM Cosford which was planned for today. Very nice flying – thanks! Anyone else having one? Newark perhaps?

Interesting to note that the tender document has now been amended and XS727 has been removed – so perhaps the Duxford delivery is back on??

Never fully trust the initial DSA disposal notices, they are there to entice interest from serious parties and then for the proper info to be imparted.

[QUOTE=kodak;1702069][QUOTE=DaveF68;1701018]

XS713 was the only updated aircraft to carry the Red/white/grey scheme with the new nose, and you can clearly see the fairing in this shot:

Hmm, how about XS736 in Lima 1’s post??

Mmm, good spot – I must have missed that one as it was a RAF College aircraft and not at the FTS

I second that as 736 has the tell tale ‘kink’ in the nose!

One is going to be used to replace the Wessex fuselage as an outside escape trainer for Fire Crews at RAF Shawbury. The Wessex didn’t get burnt, although one of our senior crewman asked if he could light the fuse if they were going to torch the Dominie (probably reflecting the sweat produced by trainees within the aircraft!)

No longer, it seems. Only 1 for preservation and that’s the Cosford example.

Then why is (XS727) it up for tender on the disposals web-site?

Nope just one….

9 airframes at Cranwell at the end of which 8 were airworthy , of those 7 are on the tender document as available for disposal, leaving only XS709 for the RAFM.

The 9th (XS713) is already a basket case, so Duxford will not be getting one unless they are planning to bid for one via the tender……

Only one into preservation?

Two apparently, one to Cosford, one to Duxford

The fleet must be close to their airframe life and pressurisation cycles to continue flying ?
