So, as the title says, and why? A school boys dream of drawing fighters on the back of his mathematics book & wishing to fly one, I know, but makes quite an interesting discussion neverless. 🙂
Me, The Cold War era, I would’ve like to been an EE/BAC Lightning pilot for the RAF during the times of around the mid 1950’s to late 1970’s, possibly up until the mid 1980’s. For me the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s of the Cold War were the most interesting of what I’ve read, watched, heard and learn’t, hearing stories of RAF Lightning pilots chasing, intercepting Soviet bombers, being on constant alert throughtout the years, taking part in various training & real missions and knowing that you were in, possibly the best fighter/intercepter of those early decades…
So many more reasons but can’t quite put them into words. I always get the impression that in those days pilots and aeroplanes had a more interesting and a better class of calibre than those of today, not saying todays are bad or anything like that-they’re top notch, just that stories I’ve heard from back then are more interesting than todays, probably…
So, put simple, I would’ve like to been an EE/BAC Lightning pilot for the RAF from mid 50’s to mid/late 70’s…And oh go on then, late 80’s too. 😀
You?
Kind regards
