The European Music Industry Is A Joke

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-10-02 AT 06:08 PM (GMT)]The music industry is a joke. Its been apparent for long time. Its only recently i’ve started to realise that the music industry (especially in Europe) is a shambles full of cheesy, bland and unoriginal acts.Anything of any quality lies in the charts at the lower end.

True music is being killed off in favour of manufactured music, and it really is perftic.Bigwigs are putting together groups of people with perfect smiles and skinny bodies with minimal music talent in order to release a couple of singles,an album, and get a fair amount of money (Hear’Say for the UK comes to mind). These people will go on the kids shows (who buy the most singles with their £3 pocket money), appearing all happy and cheerful, and sell a fair few records, squeezing out people who release excellent music, and don’t need PR stunts, out of the charts.

Europe is going the way of the minimalistic catered audience, the ones who don’t have a big foot in the world of music, and only know the likes S Club 7 LibertyX etc,and are therefore missing out on some much better music.

The US is where the real artists live like Creed,Britney Spears, No Doubt,Alicia Keys,Eminem, Destiny’s Child, REM, Nelly and others are currently doing well for themselves. Each of these bands are nothing like each other, and there is a good variety of talent. If some good bands from Europe like Travis and Stereophonics for example, all go over to the US charts, they would do well for themselves, because they’re going into a non corrupt, non biased, non manufactured (well, market, were good music reign supreme.

The funny thing is though when some European rubbish enters the US charts, they are lucky to break the top 100.The Americans don’t take the imported trash.

Does anyone agree with me?

That’s the price you have to pay for working on the music counter, why dont you go for a job in HMV , they’ve always got good music playing in there.

Question: Does anybody have an e-mail address for a ticket agency, I did but accidently wiped it off my inbox( I had a bad day yesterday)

He was about 80 Dave this bloke, and apparently he has appeared on Top of the Pops — Back in his day.

Another thing that I hated in woolies the other day, was, whilst I was working, the choice of music that some on put on was terrible.

Mad’House (from Holland) — every song on their album is a Madonna song, but they all sound the same, all got the same instruments playing.

LOL ,I bet you’ve really helped Woolies music sales Andrew, but then honesty is the best policy, especially when we’re subjected to that crap 24/7

RE: The European Music Industry Is A Joke

I tell you 3 singers that get on my nerves, Will Young, Gareth Gates and Darius!

Since each of them has come into the world of “fame”, not one of them has been able to create their own music. For example, Gareth is at the moment copying an old Elvis classic, Suspicious minds (spelling?).

And the fact that they sing other people songs and that they get to number 1 annoys me even more!

Some bloke came into Woolies the other day, and asked me, “what do you think of will young?” So I gave him an honest opinion — that I couldn’t stand him. He was saying how false they all are, and I totally agree!

RE: The European Music Industry Is A Joke

Very, very well said!!

Don’t know whats no.1 this week but did you see what was no.1 in the UK last week? That says it all!

To add to the list of real singers are a few whos albums I bought recently (all Americans!):
Michelle Branch – Has to be the best album I’ve bought, fantastic songs, she wrote or co-wrote them all. For some reason her album, never really got anywhere here, I just can’t understand that at all!

Also Avril Levigne, some great songs on her album.

With the UK it really doesn’t matter what the song is like, it will do well if a popular person sings it. Take a look at Will and Gareth, anything they release for the next few months will go straight to number 1, regardless whether it actually sounds good or is just bad rip-off of another song!
You don’t have to sing nowadays here as everything is mimed, makes me laught where you see TV programmes they say, “here to perform their latest single”, the performance is actually a dance and (very often bad) miming!

Absolutely agree with wehat you say 100%!

Well said Saab , I agree with you wholy, I think you’re echoing the thoughts of thousands of real music lovers. The likes of Simon Cowell and Pete Waterman need to take their blinkers off. They’re just a couple of arrogant smug clowns who wanna make a fast buck by churning out the tripe they do, the trouble is they’ve brainwashed so many kids(my daughters one of ’em)into believing that this is what music’s all about.
