[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-05-02 AT 06:32Â PM (GMT)]The picture below is not of a bar code,oh no this is the new European Union flag!!Hahaha.
From the BBC:
The rather sombre European Union flag could do with changing, suggests a top designer whose radical new version takes colours from the banners of all the member states. If it’s run up the flagpole, will anyone salute it?
If the European Union accepts as many as 10 new countries to the already 15-strong club, it is feared the enlarged organisation’s flag may look a bit out of date. The current version dating from 1986 boasts 12 stars – 12 being chosen as a pleasingly “perfect” symmetrical arrangement, rather than to represent member nations.
Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas thinks that this perfection can be improved upon – his new flag uses 45 vertical stripes, taking colours from every existing member’s national flag.
The logo – designed in response to a request by European Commission president Romano Prodi to find ways of rebranding the EU – represents Europe’s “diversity and unity”, according to Mr Koolhaas.

LOL!Is this some kind of joke, its sooo ugly.In my opinion a flag should be easily recognisable and reproducible by patriots and children alike (unlike this one). The proposed bar code style, whilst recognisable, is very hard on the eyes and very hard on artists. Something more along the lines of the Olympic flag might be better!
Your opinions?
(Old flag left-proposed new flag right)

RE: The European Union bar code……..
I think Domin’s comment is about right. It looks as though one delegate from each European country has vomited on a canvas and after careful combing this is the effect. I hope the Dutch Architect who designed this has more success with his buildings!

RE: The European Union bar code……..
I’ve always thought the Union Jack (the British flag) should be modernised with a small “stars and stripes” in the top left corner (British colonies have a Union Jack in the same place).

A monolitic structure….divine guidance. hummm, Oh well, I don´t want to deprive americans of that duty. Being the chosen nation of God, whose divine task is teaching the others the right way to follow and enlighten the other inferior and limited people of the world with their universal wisdom. We, Europeans are not so clever so I agree with your views. Probably a American flag in the middle of the Stars would be good.

RE: The European Union bar code……..
I would put some smiley’s on it. I mean, we Europeans always like to laugh with our “capitalistic, simplistic, narrow-minded” Americans (and right we are). 15 }> on a blue scheme, can you think of anything better.
The EU-flag is actually stolen from the COE (council of Europe), but the second organisation is not so well known. With 41 members that’s a shame, because Albania, Latvia … are also members of the COE. The COE was an utopia of uniting ALL European states (including the former east-bloc nations), but the west continued on its own and that’s how the EU became reality.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-05-02 AT 09:36Â PM (GMT)]That can’t be the correct flag. It doesn’t have the correct color code ( Red with Yellow decorations ) and the hammer and sickle. }>
It should also show a citizen looking up at a large monolithic structure ( the government ) looking for divine guidance. }>
Or a picture of a citizen looking toward a nanny ( the government ) to be taken care of }>

Come on guys. Many of us are happy to be in the EU. Give us a break.
I prefer the old one.

Hmmm…. the word “cluttered” springs to mind. All that crap chucked on the end looks dreadful. The original stars on the blue background cannot be beaten.

LOL,I thought the same!

RE: The European Union bar code……..
Most appropriate flag would be the Hammer and Sickle on a blue background, given the reluctance to move towards democracy on behalf of the EU.

RE: The European Union bar code……..
Looks shite. No, let’s just stick with the old one. It’s better than Stars and stripes }>
