Here’s one for you all.
About a year and a half ago now (I think) I read/heard rumours that Tom Cruise was/is going to star in a film titled ‘The Few’. He apparantl will play the role of Billy Fiske, the famous American Pilot who flew with the RAF.
Since these ‘rumours’, I have been able to find little or no information about the film, such as release date, when filming will be completed etc. I understand that Pramount Pictures are the company making the film.
Can anyone shed light on this?

Last I heard, and I don’t know if this still stands, Michael Mann, who just directed Cruise and Jamie Foxx in ‘Collateral’ (and which was an excellent movie) had signed on to do the directing, and he is apparently a stickler for detail and accuracy….so if he’s still attached, it could be one helluva film…
Personally, I’d love to see Spielberg do it also…him and Crusie working together again, and IMAGINE what the aerial scenes would look like….

Keep an open mind guys, we may just be in for a treat, and a sympathetic one at that.
Hope so!

The author is a Brit, a respected historian. His father was in the RAF during the war. the director is a well respected bloke too, and his father was RCAF during the war. It won’t just be Fiske. Theer were 3 Yanks in 609 too, and my understanding is that they will also be featured, along with the sqdn of course. Seems the writer got a wealth of useful material from somewhere….
Forget Pearl Harbor, it won’t be like that. Forget Top Gun, it won’t be like that. Hots Shots perhaps….. Keep an open mind guys, we may just be in for a treat, and a sympathetic one at that.

Plot Outline: Tom Cruise stars in the true-life story of American pilot Billy Fiske, who ignored his country’s neutrality rules in the early days of WWII and flew Hurricanes against the Germans.

If you read down the page, he’s not listed in the cast. IMDB don’t update their details too quickly sometimes!

It could be worse, it could feature that pseudo Australian and avid English knocker Melvyn Gibson !!!!
I do believe that young Snapper me lad, has had some contact with the author and producers. I’m sure that he’ll jump to their defence.
At Chailey last year I met the daughter of a chap who had been on the same squadron as Fiske during the BoB when he died. There is a poignant note in this chaps log book about the incident. He and several other pilots went to visit Fiske in hospital, if I remember right it was in Chitchester. Fiske was able to sit up and chat to them and they thought he would make a full recovery, he died of “shock” early the next morning.

No Sir
It wasn’t me – don’t ban me I was just standing there – it was them – they threw the stones honest!!!!
I am sure the manifesto when complete will be a literary triumph as expected of a movie in which Mr Cruise will once again emphatically reinforce the huge role the US played in the BoB (Were they in the war then I forget). I expect his Spit will naturaly be cannon armed and have 20,000 rounds per gun to enable him to take out whole Squadrons of Bosch with a single burst.
He will then retire to a saucy night at the local B&B to give young Gwynth a night to remember and do it all again the next day, And they say I am a cynic!!! Why when You have such epistles to the talent of US filmakers like Pearl Jam no sorry Harbour and Totty Gun ( Mr Cruise at his finest if you recall)
