When I was in the Army we always said that the BBC was the biggest security risk in the country. I think a few of those posts actually prove us right

Treason is a redundant term these days – ask Clare Short.

I read recently that the last Briton to be executed was Lord Haw Haw (William Joyce – who was actually Irish and probably suffered a mistrial – but that’s another story).

Regarding the Falklands, most of the TV pictures tended to arrive about two weeks after the events they were depicting. Ironically, British TV could get Argentian TV pictures much quicker (like “same day”).

Shame they didn’t manage to keep a lid on the World Service though, whose report on how the Paras were about to put in an attack on Goose Green was actually heard by some of the boys as they were tabbing to the start line. Bloody journos. 😡

Blimey i could understand that if it was bluffing the enemy and feeding false information but to give the enemy a running commentary of the plans is treason:(

News from the South Atlantic COULD have been instant, even in 1982. However, the MOD put a lid on all transmissions from the ships until the content of each report had been cleared in advance by a senior officer. This put a delay of around 48 hours on pictures – although the actual news of events was usually released within hours. The main conduit for initial news was the famous series of MOD press briefings hosted by Mr McDonald.

So, the delays were political, not technical.

Doesn’t exactly surprise me…….but which perhaps gives the game away as to the conclusion by this very action..:(

I was quite surprised that I even got a ‘thank you’ letter from the Navy AIB for registering as a witness at the scene.

Sincere sympathies to your Dad, Paul, that sort of red tape nonscence is the last thing he needs……

We have been, but are evidently supposed to keep it to ourselves for now. Actually that is not completely true as my father is having trouble getting the access to the report because his name was not on the next of kin form. That is pretty pathetic on the Navy’s part, they have not made any effort to keep him in the loop.

Anyway I can’t say anything for the time being. Personally I don’t agree with the hush hush approach, after all, it is not as if it is a national security issue. The civilian inquest is in April and I suspect that the facts will be made public then… just a guess on that though.

Nothing heard of as yet,but someone put on a post here a few weeks ago[i think it was part of a thread that got removed about the rebuilding to fly the airframe] that the family would be informed first and probably not to far in the future.
