For me i feel that Ray’s displays were the best i have seen, He knew exactly how to entertain the crowd with his routines and that is why in so many peoples opinions they call him the best.[/QUOTE]

This is my sentiment exactly, I have seen plenty of great display’s in my time from superb pilots, But the ones i saw of Ray’s were always special.

I honestly can not see why to some others me making such a comment was offensive or disrespectful to any highly skilled Display pilot, Much as saying Jimi Hendrix was the best guitarist does not offend Eric Clapton, Its a just a opinion,I thought that was the idea of forum’s to make comments and to air opinions in a non offensive way and to respect other peoples opinions.

Nice pic. Rob i’m Pretty sure that if the Hanna’s were with us today they would be too modest to admit that they were such good display pilots. It was just duxfordhawk’s opinion, I don’t feel that he was creeping as you put it. And as for other pilots reading this and trying a bit harder, You only have to hear or read the tributes from those that knew them including Stephen grey, Rod dean and Pete jarvis and you will know that they were very highly respected for their flying skills. For me i feel that Ray’s displays were the best i have seen, He knew exactly how to entertain the crowd with his routines and that is why in so many peoples opinions they call him the best.

Thankyou Anna. Listen guys, im sorry if i caused offence by adding this post. As many of you have said there is a lot more display pilots who are just as good. But Ray is sadly no longer with us and im sure he wouldn’t be offended by our comments. I envy all display pilots and wish i was as skilled and talented as they all are. Lets not get nasty, this post was not meant to start any arguments.Omce again sorry to anyone offended

You don’t need to fly so low at airshows that only those by the fence can see however. A sensible and safe height is what is needed.

STOP, STOP,STOP THIS UTTER CREEPING TRASH

Putting this sought of garbage on here is not going to prove a damn point, there are loads off pilots out their as good as Ray and Mark Hanna, if they were here they would most certainly agree, unfortunately they are now up in the blue yonder with my Dad. Stop this confounded creeping. Can you imagine what all the other display pilots feel like reading your comments, and will they try a little bit harder to prove a point. Let these two lads have some peice for gods sake and keep them in your memory

Rob 😡

Sorry to rattle your tree mate, But i take great offence to being called a creep, I have great respect for all the Warbird pilots on the scene, As you would know if you had bothered to read any of my other posts instead of just quoting this one post here, YES YES YES other pilots fly low also that what is needed at Airshows its no good flying a Display at 10,000 feet after all is it?, We have a huge amount of talented pilots such as John Romaine, Paul Bonholme, Stephen Grey,Lee Proudfoot, Cliff Spinks, etc all have great skills as anyone will agree.

As to you comment that some pilots will try harder to prove a point because of my comments here, I doubt it as most if not all pilots have greater skill than to do anything that stupid, We have a very safe Airshow scene here mainly because pilots know how to fly a display safely within the design envelope of the Aircraft, Remember 2004 and 2005 seasons in the UK went without fatalities at all thats to be commended, That shows the skill of our Display pilots.

The fact is Ray and Mark Hanna were my heroes at Airshows and have been since my first Airshow in 1982, God bless them both.

So sorry if your upset, and you also Yak11 i care about others oppinions here.

Nice site, Love the photo’s you got there, As to the question “Why can’t they fly that low anymore?”, Low flying like that was a skill only Ray and Mark seemed able to do with ease, A talent and artistry that few pilots have, Ray was flying this way until the end.
So yes the good old days came to a end but the memories of legends like Ray and Mark will never end.

thanks everyone. Mark and Ray Hannah were both superb display pilots. Ray being an absolute master of the skies. But lets not forget other display pilots Stephen Grey, Paul bonholme, John romain are just a few. But Ray will always be a Legend never forgotten in warbird circles!!
