The Great 2008 Ryanair Booking Scam.

Fancy a low-cost European flight?

As you navigate the online booking site for Ryanair the costs just keep on rising, £8 to check in a bag, and then you cannot check yourself in online, so a further £15 to check yourself in at the desk.

Of course, this all has to be paid for by card (credit or debit) and there is further charge levied because you have paid in such a manner. This charge is £4.00, which is a rip-off, since the card provider charges the retailer about .45p or thereabouts.

HOWEVER, Ryanair are actually charging £4, per person per leg, so if two of you are flying out and back, the charge is…….£16.00!

The total cost of the whole trip CAN still be competitive ( depending when you book, demand etc ) but the reality of dealing with the company leaves a very nasty taste, and an enduring feeling that they have no meaningful respect for their travelling public.

I would much rather see a fare for £75.00 and pay that, rather than one for £9.99, which creeps ( or leaps) up to that figure with all the sneaky add-ons and unavoidable extras.:(

I’m sure it will be £8…….plus £150 “ancillary charges”

Aye, and that’s just one way, double that for a return ticket to which they’ll probably add a £15 charge for the ‘extra’
work required to issue a return instead of a single.
I don’t know how Ryanair think they are going to be one of the survivors if only 4 airlines survive in Europe. I think a more likely candidate for survival will be KLM and Ryanair will fold. Oops, I forgot that KLM was bought out by Air France so I guess I’ll have to have a think about who else could be a likely contender. I certainly can’t imagine Ryanair surviving in view of all the adverse comment they’re getting at the moment. TAP or Swissair maybe?

I love the way Ryanair prices their flights. When flying Ryanair it is always for short trips, 3 or 4 days max. I can do with hand-luggage, do not particuarly care for priority boarding (not done at my local airport anyway) and will gladly check-in from behind my computer. It saves me a lot of money! I do agree on your credit-card charge rant though.

They don’t have any respect for the public, (the company not the crews) but hey, I’m going to Malaga for a few days, hand baggage only £35.00 and a day trip to Dublin for £8.00, as the old saying goes “you pays your money and you takes your choice”
