PeeDee – yes I would think that the answer to your last question is “yes”. Isn’t it called the “domino effect”. If his oil exports were stopped and Saudi and the rest upped their capacity to cover the shortfall it would bring about a swift end and also stabilise the oil price.

Quadbike – yes he was a stabilising force but so is any dictator ruling by force, simply because instability is crushed.

As bad as he was Gaddaffi was a stabilizing force. Libya lacks a civil society and people to take over once he is gone, it is in a way worse than the situation in Iraq after Saddam minus troops to stabilize it. Libya may slip into a long and bloody civil war making many of us wish Gaddafi hadn’t gone.

I was involved with Military sales to Libya. Didn’t meet the Col. but met #1 son and lots of Chiefs of Staff.

Also met a lot of Libyan people, they were glad that the Col. had turned the corner and renounced WMD and terrorism. They all had jobs and nobody moaned about being skint or underpaid. They were looking forward to a new Libya as they could now buy from the West and indeed sell oil to the West. With Tourism back on the agenda (Some of the very best beaches are on that stretch) they were enjoying the rebuild of the nation and people were not complaining about the Col.
So, I dunno what went wrong.
Is it a case of “Next-doors had a go and succeeded, so we will?

The two guys who landed their F1EDs at Luga definitely were not of European origin, they looked that North African “Berber” style guys.

People in Tripoli are reporting that American built Boeing CH-47 Chinook imported from Italy are being used to ferry in African mercenaries into and around the city.

Are you sure they’re American built and not Italian-made machines built under license by EM?

I can wait can the people of Libya who are being fired up on wait. Time to live test APG 79 and C-7 AMRAAMS.

I guess they ejected because all the airfields in Benghazi are completely trashed and there was no other way to bring it down safely.

It appears some are smart enough to realize there will be no more paydays if the oil industry is destroyed.
