Mainland Europe rejoices.
Large defense budget cuts. Big increases in social spending. Nationalized health care. Tax increase providing short term revenue increase, but longer term economic turmoil and increasing unemployment.
International agenda foresaken in favor of a domestic agenda. Allies confused and aggressors emboldened. Israel?
Strategic withdrawal from the Middle East.
I don’t see any way for the F-22, JSF, C-17, C-5 RERP, KC-45, and new UAV’s to all survive.
All just MHO.

I love how the GOP can only win in an environment of fear and scared little rabbits.
While I guess many Americans currently live in an environment of fear and are scared little rabbits, but not because of big bad daddy Osama but because of the very real threat of economy downturn, mortgage fail and job loss. Quite reasonable fears. Many will give a s##t if the USAF gets 190 or 250 F-22, and if the F-15C is re-equipped with AESA.
I guess Carter didn’t lose the election in 1980 because people were unhappy about the low number of nuclear powered guided missiles cruisers (CGN) in the Navy.

Yeah, I love listening to talk radio when some person will call in first declaring he’s black (and anyone with any sense knows he ain’t) and like clockwork he will say negative things about blacks.
I know this arch Republican who told me chances are I would die from the hands of a terrorist more than any other cause. Then when I burst out laughing, he gave me that look that I was un-American. I love how the GOP can only win in an environment of fear and scared little rabbits.

“The Messiah® is further left than Jimmy Carter and we all know how it went for the military under him. In a nut-shell the military is f–ked. The only political entity with a lower approval rating than Bush (the Democrat-controlled congress) having the furthest left in the bunch at the helm? Watch them run wild with entitlement programs. My wallet is already feeling thinner.”
I recently talked to an american on exchange over here, and he was upset the democrats threw the election away, but at least it would be McCain to lead the country. and when i asked what he meant he said all the democrats had to do was stick a white bloke in the candidacy and the election was sealed, and that people only voted for obama cause they didn’t like hillary and vice-versa- i asked him why he had that opinion and he said, “my dad marched for civil rights in the 50s, and 60s, but he’s not even ready to vote for Obama. Obama is just another politician- not the Messiah as hes cracked up to be”
personally i think the US armed forces would face there own great depression, and if Obama gets in I’m worried some bigot’s going to kill him.
and to those refferring to McCain as ‘Songbird’, it may disgust your sensibility that he talked, but i doubt anyone here has been a POW and tortured like they were. What would you do to stay alive?
And a term is only 4 years- if Obama’s military and economic policy is that bad, you can replace him.

What is the main objective of a president in his first term?
Correct, winning the election for the second term.
The current US fiscal balance is unsustainable when
– there is no major economy upturn (which is unlikely the next 12-18 month)
– the 100 billion USD for Irag & Afghanistan will continue to hurt (neither theater allows a troop withdrawel in the next 24 month, Obama knows that despite saying different things)
– the credit crises continues to require money from federal budget
In the end, some moderate defense cuts, especially in running costs (reducing sortie rates, postponing modernizations) are the better decision than putting the whole country at stake. Carter may have procured no B-1A, but he sure left some fiscal flexibilities for Reagan to procure the B-1B.

Really……….and Obama which has never held a Leadership or Executive Position in his life.
So did Bush Snr.
Should be the leader on the largest most powerful country on the planet………While, we live in a Democrat Country and its up to the public to make the final choice. Clearly, Obama couldn’t win on the merits.
LOL. The guy who could not win on merits are usually the ones making negative campaigns.
Bush Jnr. had executive experience (governor of Texas). Not to mention a baseball team. What did it get him and this country?
Jimmy Carter had both military command experience and executive experience, being governor of Georgia. Look at what happened.
Its funny though, back in 1980, it was Jimmy Carter doing all the attacking and negative campaigning, citing Ronald Reagan’s lack of national and international level leadership. Ronald Reagan emphasized a positive campaign. Guess who won. Years later, Mondale used a negative line in his campaigning; Reagan stuck to the positive. Guess who won. And guess who is now running negatively and who is running a positive campaign.
The fact that Obama is able to lead, strategize and execute a political campaign that has upset veterans like Hillary Clinton and has cornered McCain, who is forced now to campaign defensively in Republican—not battleground—states, tells you a lot about his mental and strategic capabilities as a shrewd leader.

on the subject of Carter and Reagan,
its pretty interesting that at the time of their elections
what are now considered key red states, were blue, and blue states were red..
so what happened since then that made the switch?
Has a lot to do with the population and ethnic groups. Ever changing……;)

Reagan only served in some PR unit as in making movies for the Army. I think everyone in WWII has to serve somehow.
Jimmy Carter served after the war as an enlisted officer onboard things from ships to submarines, and he was handpicked by Admiral Rickover himself to be part of a core elite officer corps that would man the first USN nuclear submarines. He had a degree in nuclear physics as part of the requirement. Carter cites Rickover as the person with the most influence over him aside from his parents.
As for having “executive” experience, Palin certainly doesn’t know how the Vice Presidency works (or ever read the US Constitution) if she thinks the VP heads the US Senate.
Also the Vietnamese didn’t call McCain “Songbird” for nothing, you know. Some POWs appear to vouch for McCain but many others have contrary accounts, including McCain making as many as 32 videos for the Vietnamese. And McCain was crappy as a pilot, said to have lost or crashed 3 out of the 5 planes he piloted. Nothing really is of course relevant today, except that I question McCain’s temperment and lack of coolheadness to be a leader.

Well, I would rather have McCain or Carter vs Obama or Palin. Which, is not to say that Obama or Palin couldn’t be good Presidents. As a matter of fact either of the last two would be better Vice Presidents……..Otherwise, we mite as well elect MIT grads that excel in Political Debate.

Number one. Apparently this is the guy you preferred. Jimmy Carter.
The number two guy is Ronald Reagan.
Yes, I got it……………Jimmy Carter served briefly in the US Navy Submarine Service during the days of Admiral Rickover.
As long as we are comparing McCains Father and Grand Father were very capable and successful USN Admirals. Further, John McCain served as a Commander of a Fighter Squadron and retired with the Rank of Capt.
Note: If, not for his long prison time and injuries. McCain would have likely made Admiral like his father and grand father. Which, is likely why he got into to politics.
By: Arabella-Cox - 23rd October 2008 at 03:59
Which means nothing to the presidency.
Pick which one you like to be your president.
1. Years of service in the US Navy, under the personal tutelage of the one of the US Navy’s most famous admirals, on the road to his own command before leaving for personal reasons. Comes from a solidly conservative southern “Bible” state and is a devout Christian.
2. Comes from the liberal state of California, divorced, and works in Hollywood.
Well, the light bulb just went off………..You must be talking about Ronald Reagan. That said, if you are asking me who I would want as President between McCain and Reagan. My answer would be Reagan in 1980 and McCain in 2008.
Note: Reagan did serve in the US Military (Army) in WWII and was a Governor of largest National Guard in the US. Obama has never served in the US Armed Force and has never held an excutive position in Business or the Military.

Well, first I think Military Service has a lot to do the the US Presidency. Especially, considering the US President in the Commander and Chief of all US Armed Forces. Further, the US is fighting two major conflicts and a world war a terrorism. Really, not a good time to be learning the ropes……….
Also, who comes from the liberal state of California, is Divorced, and works n Hollywood. Sorry, you lost me there……….

No one expected a 2nd Bush term either, and then look what happened!
Good point…………..Personally, I don’t trust the polls anymore than the liberal media.:(
By: crobato - 23rd October 2008 at 03:08
Well, without getting into a big Political Arguement. Obama has never served in the Military nor does he have any leadership experience. Especially, in a National Security or Military Setting. Sorry, I don’t think many would want such a inexperienced leader with his finger on the button during times of crisis. As a matter of fact I would have prefered McCain over either Bush or Obama any day of the week. That’s just my personal opinion…….
Personally I would prefer Bush and Obama over McCain, whom the Vietnamese nicknamed “Songbird”. I cannot trust a leadership like McCain who impeded Federal regulators investigating his friend at the Lincoln Mutual scandal that touched off the Savings and Loans crisis more than a decade ago, a scandal so similar and a precursor to what is happening in Wall Street now. I cannot trust McCain, who along with his war vet buddy John Kerry, closed the book on missing POWs and MIAs in Vietnam. Swiftvets was on McCain’s case, but fortunately for McCain, the organization got disbanded earlier this year. And lastly, I cannot trust the judgement of someone who would make someone as his Vice President, someone who doesn’t really know how the US Government works, as in “The Vice President heads the US Senate”. Nor does the VP set Senate policy.
As for the polls, some of the polls are showing Obama’s lead growing to double digits.

Well, the polls have hardly be accurate in the past………Personally, I believe its neck and neck right now. With the polls showning the race closing as we speak. Really, I think it shows that Obama has his share of problems with the US Public in General. Because after 8 years of Bush……….any Democrat should be “KILLING” the Republican Candidate. Think about it………just shows the underling current against Obama.

By: Arabella-Cox - 23rd October 2008 at 02:55
True dat. He saved the taxpayers 6 billion by stopping the corrupt Boeing lease deal. But why waste time trying to figure out what he will do when every poll has Obama winning?
