The Hampden project in scale (questions)

Hi Guys

I’m back again. This time I’m going to build the HD Hampden in 1/48 following the Whitley’s standards in the near past. (already presented here step by step at the model’s table)

I do need your precious help.

I’m now studying the subject, trying to understand the interior structure. What I miss are some clear pics of the areas marked in red on the following illustration.

1. How the foot steps and the floor there look like
2. How the navigator’s area at the sextant hatch look like
3. Some good illustration or pictures showing the Vickers K mountings

I would appreciate for any help about. Thank U in advance.

Alex Kontiveis.

Hi Guys.
I have some news about the front section’s floor…Actually there is only a ramp and no footsteps. The Ramp leads directly at the escape hatch.

Can anybody, indentify the type of the hampden’s drift sight?

Another question is:

Looking at all B/W pictures, the ventral escape hatch is open, but no door is vissible. Where does it go? Do they remove it during crew boarding?

Thank You in advance
Alex

Not quite the whole floor. in my sixth picture there a piece about the size of your hand that’s still attached! :highly_amused:

Glad I could be some help.

Hi Adrian. I doubt if that piece that look to be attached, is a part of the floor, located at the correct place. . It doesnt make any sense…The floor should be attached on the upper side of the bombbay’s beams… not underneath them.

By the way.. I had a reply from the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. They will forward my request to the restoration team. Good news so far.

Thank You.

Hi Cees,
Long time no speak…

Haven’t been to East Kirkby for some years now, any clue if any work has been carried out on AE436 recently?

By the way, secretly admiring your Halifax/Hampden self builds 🙂

Dear Adrian
I own lots of pics from this one. However some of your shots are very Helpful. Thank you…

But… the whole floor is missing …everything is seethrough… on that. I’ve got many Hampden and Hereford manuals and nothing dislays the floor inside especially in the front section where I’m interested in.

I guess that both of the museums, will have a picture or an accurate illustrations from my blind area.

Thank You.

Alex

I took these at the Langley museum in September 2008. That’s before it’s little mishap. You’ll notice there’s quite a lot missing internally, but at least you can see the structure…

Cees…I have already did! No responce yet. I have also sent the same request to the Canadian Museum!!! I’m waiting.

Mark, yes your high Res pic look better but as you mention too…it doesnt help much though… It looks like a carpet or something which covers the floor there..

Thank you very much for your Help:very_drunk:

Hi Alex,

Great to read you are doing you rmagic on the Hampden. Are you combining the Sanger and Fonderie Miniatures kits? You do know how to
accept a challenge.

You probably know this site:

http://silksheenphotography.co.uk/resident-aircraft/hampden-ae436-gallery-history/

If all goes well I will be visiting the restoration centre Stafford soon. They have a Hampden
on rebuild, but the bits you need info on are missing on that project. You can try to contact
the Hampden project at East Kirkby as they are rebuilding the aircraft in the link above.
Good luck en show us as many pics on the progress as you can.
Cheers
Cees

Hi Alex,

We’ve got quite a few photos in our ww2images library, have a browse through these and let me know if any might be helpful. If you find anything, send me a pm (private message) and we’ll take it from there.

Hi Mark, thank you for your concern. I do own the most of these pictures. There is only one that shows something from the floor but it is rather blured for me to get any safe conclusion..

Thanks for your kind comments. To tell you the truth, I have already began some progress, but not something important. I’m working on the making of the clear parts. Anyway, I have to get answers on my request asap.

I have not any clear info about these sections marked in red color..and I do not want to work in blind. I will wait.

You are my one and only hope…:very_drunk:
