I was lucky enough to have an aerobatic flight in a Harvard at the start of November with The Harvard Club of South Africa. They are co-located with the SAAF Museum at AFB Swartkop in Pretoria, who have a flying day the first Saturday of every month which meant they were quite busy and we had a formation flight. Both aircraft were RAF orders that were passed straight on to the SAAF during WWII.
As well as the museum aircraft in the air it was a great chance to see the local aviation art community and the Spitfire restoration team that are hoping to get the museum’s Mk IX back into airworthy condition.
A fantastic experience for about a third of what you would pay in Europe. See http://www.pilotspost.com/arn0001377 for more details of an excellent day out. Recommended to anyone who finds themselves in Pretoria/J’burg.
