That’s just parliamentary convention. Since the last government did a
away with whole swathes of our traditions and heritage I am surprised that was not consigned to the bin as well.

My own hopefully objective view is that there is large number of hardworking, unambitious constituency members who work hard and long on behalf of their constituents, of whichever party. It might surprise you to hear that we lived in John Major’s constituency and both before and after he held high office he was an excellent MP.

Seriously, Charlie, why are we always falling for the same old pre election promises, that when those we vote in for what they say they will do, never do?.

I would vote for the first Candidates who have a truthful answer to a question without side stepping it.I would still like to know why they refer to themselves as “MY right honourable member”, when answering a question in the house.

Air New Zealand partnered with WETA Workshop on a brand new Hobbit inspired Safety Video. It features cameo appearances including Sir Peter Jackson.

Most of those look like they’ve just spent the day at a windy late season display at Duxford.
Didn’t the second left, second row from top grow up to be Rodney (sorry, I mean Dave) ?. And didn’t the second right top row end up nude, with a rose clenced between his a**e cheeks ?

Anything is welcome that gives back or, re-awakens the all most lost tradition of English ancient mythology as handed down by our Norse/German ancestors: Grendel, Tiw, Freya, Odin/Woden, Thor, dragons, hob goblins, trolls (not the Internet variety) mysterious forest dwelling creatures with which mythical warriors interacted and fought endless battles. Even the imaginative winged Viking helmets stir childish imaginations and create an appetite for the likes of Beowulf and Hereward.

More English myth please.

I’ve read The Hobbit which I found quite engrossing. I started LOTR but gave up, found it boring.

No, not at all. I struggled with both, as you do try, many years ago, long before he bacame fashionable, and gave up – as did many others. I would guess that quite a small percentage of the audience for the films has actually read any of the books, but I might be wrong…..:)

When I first saw the picture, I thought Simon Cowell has formed the oldesat boy band ever 😀 .
I loved the book as a child, but have never really got into the films, they are well filmed but a little too long overall.

I think that Tolkien might have enjoyed the films for what they were, which is a BRIEF overview of his story…. There is no worry about running out of content – have you read The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings properly? (Cover to cover including appendices and the other random side-tracked bits). There is easily another film or three in the appendix alone covering the initial back-story and the events AFTER TLOTR. He pretty much invented a working language to meet the requirements of his story!

The combined works do give an interesting twist on old European Mythology, although it is a nod to the research material rather than attempt to re-write history…

Its good to see Tolkien attempting, via Hollywood, to resuscitate Anglo Saxon Jutish mythology.

John Green

Tolkien might have loathed the films.

They aren’t hobbits – they’re Dwarves. In The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit the two things are actually quite different.

I suppose I shall have to take the wife to see them.
I also expect they’ll do the same as before. Bring out the 3hr version, followed by the four hour version some time afterwards ?

Doing the same with the DVDs.

They’re releasing another JRR Tolkein movie?! Surely they have to be running out of content soon. Especially considering they’re all like 3 hours long, lol. I’ll definitely watch this though.
