I like the Thud too, but what does it have to do with the F-100?

Not trying to be rude or anything. By the way that’s a nice photo of that F-105G you posted.

As much as I like the “Hun” ,I have to say that to me the “Thud” is far more impressive.

Very much a pseudo-successor to the P-47 , a real Republic product through and through. Big, fast and very tough !!!

Neat photo your farther took Spiteful. I like photos like that. They are the best example of a “I was there” type of picture.

So does no one have any access to F-100 photos with Shrikes? Are there any good Weasel sites about F-100F’s?

Be careful when searching for “The Hun” you might not get what you quite expect. Be especially careful about allowing Minors to see The Hun’s website!!!!!!!!

Well, the Lightning outclasses the Hun in both speed, acceleration, and rate of climb although I’m sure agility is much more evenly matched, if not in favor of the Hun.

Don’t agree, in terms of speed, climb rate, acceleration and agility, the Lightning proved time and again in 1 vis 1 combat against other NATO air arms, it was streets ahead of ANYTHING until the F15 and F16 entered service.

However, as a weapons platform of course the Lightning was crap by the late sixties, although, had the British Govt. allowed BAC to impliment it’s updates it would have greatly improved, as would it’s ridiculously limited (non AAR) range. :rolleyes:
As it was a Lightning was fuel critical before taxiing to the end of the runway for take-off…. :p

Once outdated as an intercepter the Hun certainley earned it’s spurs as a mud-mover in Vietnam, didn’t it have the highest sortie total of any in that role…?
But, also, IIRC the F8 Crusader outperformed the Hun using the same engine. :confused:

Cutters Hun

I have yet to see it fly in person but hope to someday. Dean “Cutter” Cutshall’s F-100 flies out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. I see Cutter about once or twice a year when he comes thru where I work. Anyway… here is a web site with pics of his bird.

I thought they were similar in size, so I got abig surprize when I’ve first seen the Hun at the USAF museum. It is big!
I had the same filling on seeing the Lightning for the first time.

Well, the Lightning outclasses the Hun in both speed, acceleration, and rate of climb although I’m sure agility is much more evenly matched, if not in favor of the Hun. It’s a hard comparison to make because they really aren’t in the same class. I guess for things positive to say about the Hun as compared to the Lightning, it does have much greater range and a larger warload carrying capability. It’s also a more versatile machine.

The plane to compare to the F-100 is the MiG-19, and I guess you could say the Hunter as well although it’s somewhat slower than both the Farmer and the Super Sabre.

How do you guys think one of these would go against an EE lightning ?
Obviously the Lightnings a lot faster,..but..??

Circa 1957, a UK sweet (bon bon/confectionery) manufacturer promoted its ‘bubble gum’ by gifting a small clip of film wrapped with each purchase.

That film, unbelievable as that might seem now, was three frames of genuine 35mm positive stock.

Bearing in mind this was Cold War 1957ish, the F-100 was then quite a potent machine.

I saved the clip from the sole packet I purchased and slipped it in to my ‘Aircraft of the World’ book.

Here is the complete clip and one image cleaned up a touch.

What can you tell us about it?

Apparently, at take-off on afterburner the whole sction glows !!
