Here’s the sole (?) remaining J8M at Chino last year (& no, its not an Me163 copy as Pete suggested).

Not an exact copy, but Japan did buy a license for production of the Messerschmitt and its engine.
And for those of you who don’t know the story, one of the two submarines taking the data back to Japan was sunk, so Japan had to figure out the rest.
So how about calling it a “Half-copy”? 🙂

There is another survivor at one of the Mitsubishi factories. Rebuilt from a recovered wreck

The evidence (like the fact that it’s close to being visually the same) says otherwise…

I think you’re thinking of the word ‘jet’ as meaning an air-breathing gas turbine engine.

A jet can be any fast stream of water or hot air – as in the definition of ‘jet’ :- a rapid stream of liquid or gas forced out of a small opening:

So, strictly speaking, a rocket exhaust is a jet – albeit not the generally accepted example of a ‘jet engine’

Pedantic mode off…

Ken

It does not have to be hot, nor a liquid…. pedantic mode mode off……..

I think it’s because his posts/website smack so much of ‘no effort’. He rips stuff from books/internet, does no research

I thought that is how the web works…. look at Wikipedia and a myriad of other sites, including those damned shopping ones that simply link you to other sites selling the actual items……

He’s harmless and some of the stuff he puts on his site is interesting.

Last time I looked I stopped at 42. Under a variety of names and apparent places of origin.

I think it’s because his posts/website smack so much of ‘no effort’. He rips stuff from books/internet, does no research (unless one counts Googling, which some sadly do) and posts purely to get others to make money for him.

I don’t see any harm in that. It is quite interesting to see multiple photographs in one place. Some elements of this forum, and historic aviation forums in general (I lurk on other forums that I don’t have membership to) seem to thrive on some sort of insider or hidden knowledge, whereas Pampa14 is at least archiving photos in a central, easy to discover location.

Yes, I have to agree with that Ken, any propelling nozzle can be referred to as a jet.
I was referring to general usage, I haven`t heard the Komet being referred to as a jet before.

Why do his posts bother folk so much?

I think it’s because his posts/website smack so much of ‘no effort’. He rips stuff from books/internet, does no research (unless one counts Googling, which some sadly do) and posts purely to get others to make money for him.

He also has no intention of responding to posts which might be considered useful/helpful, even though most of his forum threads end with some type of question.

In my humble opinion he contributes nothing, and though I did look at his website a couple of times, I don’t feel the need to now: I have learnt my lesson. However I am curious to observe how many similarly-minded folks he’s annoying – folks who I assume are as inquisitive as I was and are making the same mistake that I did.

Being an Me163, I imagine it did more to combat the growing advance of Japanese pilots than Allied bombers!

I think it’s something to do with hits on his website, doesn’t seem to do any harm.
