I found the show very intresting,I have never been a fan of him but do admire him as a songwriter…….

The other thing that i did like from the show was it did not hide what he was like as a man and his rebel streak and his drug problems this all made him the song writer he was in my view.

I agree the programme was good even for a non-fan.

The thing about Johnny Cash is that coming from such a deprived childhood, that melancholy never really left him, and was reflected in his songs.

He was admirable because he open about what affected him and had the talent to write about it – and he never hid his problems with drugs.

And he was one of the first to invite black performers on his show, Johnny Cash Live- at a time when this was rare in America.

Best regards
Tony

JOHNNY Cash’s family is outraged at a plan to use the country great’s song Ring of Fire in an advertisement for haemorrhoid cream.
A Florida advertising company came up with the idea and won the backing of the song’s co-writer, Merle Kilgore.
But Cash’s daughter, Rosanne, said: “There is no way we will ever let that happen. The song is about the transformative power of love and that’s what it has always meant to me and that’s what it will always mean to the Cash children.”
Ring of Fire found a new audience in 1999 when it was included in a jeans advertisement.
Ring of Fire was written by Kilgore and Cash’s wife, June Carter Cash.

Did see it.
Not as a fan but someone who was interested.
I was glad to see that Cash’s powerful cover of Trent Reznors ‘Hurt’ affected his family and loved ones as much as it affected me.
Very good.

Yes, the video was very, very emotional. When I shot the Roseanne Cash interview for the programme, she burst into tears when asked about the video. She was swiftly followed by me, the producer, researcher and sound man. One group hug later and we were back on track.

Should have said that in advance (if it was on one of the two Beebs i get here in the hilly parts of the Netherlands), i would have loved seeing it.

His last album had one of the most beautiful songs ever IMHO. “I hung my head” is such a wonderful and touching combination between song and singer, it’s almost creepy. Absolutely wonderful.
