The Kent Spitfire, TA805 (G-PMNF) was in Normandy to take part in the 65th anniversary D-Day commemorations.

The Spitfire flew from Biggin Hill to Le Havre on Thurday the 4th June.
On the 5th it flew from Le Havre to Deauville and then flew at ceremonies at Colville/ Montgomery, Courseulles Sur Mer and Lion Sur Mer. In the evening of the 5th it was flown to the beaches of Arromanches-les-Bains past the Mulberry Harbours and on to Pont Du Hoc.

The pilots reported a fantastic welcome by British, Canadian veterans and French civilians.

It was an honour to be able to fly for them.

Due to flight restrictions in the area on the 6th, the aircraft could not fly over the beaches, but it returned to Biggin Hill later that day.

What a wonderful sight it was to see the Kent Spitfire over the Pointe du Hoc. Let’s hope we see the same sight next year. 🙂
