Just out of interest, how do you perceive The Netherlands?

Dutch Edam is lovely with some Anchovy stuffed olives and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon

Never saw any clogs. 😀

You did say you avoided the tourists traps. I myself have seen clogs no more then perhaps 20 times and I live here! In a rural area too!

My relatives went there recently & were quite shocked how dirty & seedy Amsterdam was.Hashish cafes, drug dealers, dirty streets & sex shops everywhere.

Not everywhere. Most of Amsterdam is great. Markets, one of the worlds great galleries, (The Rieksmuseum) one of the worlds great concert halls (Concertgebow). Sadly lots of people can’t see beyone the s*x and drug ‘attractions’. We avoided these areas and had a great time. There’s only a few smalll areas that feature this – get away from them and you are in one of the world’s great cities. I just got tired of the patetic leers I got from people in England when I said I was going to Amsterdam. Pathetic.

Been to Bergen op Zoom Canadian War Cemetry, Lledstaad (the new Aviodrome) and the Sousterberg Military Aviation Museum – all very well done. (Excuse spelling!) The Museum of Resistance is a must see for those who’ve never faced occupation. IMHO, the Dutch have a lot to be proud of and are remarkably honest about the plusses and minuses of their imperial past, unlike some countries I could mention. The Maritime Museum is great too.

My wife and I regard Holland as one of the great countries in Europe and have enjoyed our visits there.

In Australia, now, I meet quite a few Dutch folks who remember the W.W.II period. Some wonderful stories. We are currently lucky enough to havbe an exhibition of Dutch Master paintings on at the NGV in Victoria. Great, great art.

Never saw any clogs. 😀

Nice girls if you catch them in holidays in SOuthern Europe where they are more relaxed. The Red neighborhood in Amsterdam is quite civilised. Moscow or Bangkok night life are really a thrill but I never felt threatened in Amsterdam. Even the junkies seemed under check. As for the girls they run their operations like a bank office.

Nice country, especially the windmills & Tulips. From recent accounts,I hear it’s quite boring & Amsterdam is quite unpleasant. My relatives went there recently & were quite shocked how dirty & seedy Amsterdam was.Hashish cafes, drug dealers, dirty streets & sex shops everywhere.
Such a shame they have become extreme left, liberal.Still, they’re the only country with an accent more funny that strong west African accents, when speaking English! “Just look at dose filty vindowsh”!!!

I would like to get of here: too many laws, too many rules, taxes are too high, too many people in a small country. You need government approval just to fart. If I could, I’d go to the Czech Republic or Hungary….. Lots of space, friendly people, lots of chances.

I perceive the Netherlands as a historically very important country, and if it wasn’t of the British and their damn Navigation Acts, they would still be a major power. :p

I also look at them as a bunch of tax-avoiding a$$holes who buy a house in Belgium, and hence, raise the prices for us. (of course only a small minority 😉 )

So i guess Hamburger will be able to enjoy himself. Besides, that particular McD is only 150metres away from the local coffeeshop (of the pot-kind) which was conveniently built inside the Town Hall building 😀

wow eating coffee and getting stoned on Vlaii, that must be heaven! 😮

Nice to see you return to form…(I think)

I wouldn’t check it out since I don’t live in America – wrong side of the pond; couple that with the enlightening snippit from the Apple Pie thread that I don’t like apple pie either.

Thanks all the same!;)

I loved Amsterdam and used to pass through many times and also used to visit Rotterdam but have not been there for years. I was amazed to read that Rotterdam is expected to have between 60 to 70% Muslim population (mainly Moroccan/Turkish) by 2017.

I percieve the Dutch as bad drivers with caravans… Like those I see thery summer.

Or people who can’t put snowtires on their cars when they come on Holiday in the Belgian Ardennes in the wintertime, and who jam our roads 🙂

Hey, no one mentionned cheese ! 😉

Apart of that, friendly people.

I perceive the Netherlands to be just a tiny country, with very liberal laws.
