Dracula (Horror of Dracula)

Hammer’s first, and best, entry in the series, with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing duking it out over the blood of Melissa Stribling. The late Michael Gough also appears.

Sure, it’s waaaaay different from the novel, but I don’t care! I’d love it if the newly revamped Hammer Films were to do a remake of this, but properly.

Totally agree on that. The only thing I did like about Van Helsing was the design of the werewolves, but it seemed as though Stephen Sommers was so preoccupied with the effects that he forgot the storyline.

So many plotholes and silly ideas that it just becomes a farce.

This could have been oh so much better. “The Mummy” from the same director is one of my favourite movies, so easy to watch and fun.

This looks good, and starts well with a black and white scene with the angry villagers attacking the castle (pure cliche) but the plot is a mess and the key monsters really ham it up.

A missed opportunity… shame.

I’ve been tempted to rewatch the old Hammer Dracula movies again, so I started off with Brides of Dracula. No sign of Christopher Lee whatsoever, but his nemesis, Peter Cushing, was back kicking vampire ass.

However, it was back to the 1970s for Dracula AD.1972. A descendant of Cushing’s heroic vampire-hunter battles the bloodthirsty Count in 1970s London. Not bad, but not brilliant either.

Hyped up by the upcoming remake, I decided to watch the original Fright Night again. Quality flick. They don’t make vampire movies like this any more – they sparkle, walk about in daylight, and don’t drink blood!! Fail.

True (Alleged) WW2 story about an escape from Soviet camp in Siberia. Walked 4,000km to India. 7 set off, 3 made it.

Film is 2hr 14 mins. Worth it.

Just saw Source Code in theaters. Surprisingly entertaining. If you liked The Adjustment Bureau, it has a similar life affirming vibe.

Just a platform to put a handsome bloke and a stunningly beautiful woman on the big screen. How they panned it out for nearly 2 hours I’ll not understand.

Sweet, holy Jesus.

This. Was. Crap. Like, seriously. If ever there was a film I should have walked out of, this was it. Luckily I didn’t pay for it*, or otherwise I’d be kicking myself…

*I didn’t buy the tickets, my mate did. So it’s her fault.

The awesome that is Aliens on DVD. Still brilliant, no matter how many times you watch it.

Followed by Wanted on ITV. Is it me, or does ITV epically SUCK when it comes to putting films on TV? I mean, surely we don’t NEED an ad break about fifteen minutes from the end of the film, and then ANOTHER about five minutes from the end?! Numpties.

Killing Bono

I started off thinking this would suck, but it was actually quite good, and very chucklesome. This film charts the rise and fall of two brothers who, but for one reason or another, could have been as big as U2. And as daft as it might seem, at times, it’s based on true events.

Definitely worth another look.
