Wild Country – a group of Glasgow teens go camping in the wilds of Scotland, and fall prey to some big beasty on the moors. Not bad.

The Ghost and the Darkness – Val Kilmer plays an Irish engineer tasked with building a railway bridge in Tsavo, only for his workforce to fall prey to a pair of ravenous lions. Based on a true story, too.

JAWS – do I need say any more??

At the moment – Tangled (the recent Disney adaptation of Repunzel) for what must be close to the fiftieth time.
Before that Frozen; I did make a note of how many times that had been on my TV, but gave up/lost interest/meh apparently at 67 viewings.

My youngest daughter loves both of them with a passion – did you think either was my choice?

Finally got round to the Coen’s take of True Grit. Enjoyed it very much and remembered little of the original except for Wayne as Rooster.

George Clooney,Bill Murray,|Hugh Bonniville and co try to rescue stolen art from the Germans after D-Day. Based on a true story….loosely if what i have read is to be believed.Still passed the time and had a nice panning shot featuring Duxford residents Sally B,Snafu and i think Ferocious Frankie aswell as a P-40 and piper Cub with a C-47 and cgi background.Plus shots of the Duxford tower and hangers.

Based on the memoirs of fighter pilot Robert L Scott, this is a decent, yet seldom mentioned, war flick with some great dogfight sequences.

Air Force

A B-17 crew goes island-hopping after being caught up in the attack at Pearl Harbor. Decent flick, with some nice flying scenes – not often you see one of the old-style Fortresses!

Fighter Squadron

A P-47 squadron involved in the lead-up to the events of D-Day. Fun movie, nice flying sequences, and you gotta love the Mustangs playing Messerschmitts!

Homeward Bound – The Incredible Journey

Not the best film for someone to watch after losing a beloved pet, but it’s decent enough.

Cross of Iron – a Pekinpah lost classic for me!!

The last time I went to the ‘pictures’ to see a film was in May 2013 at the Kinema in the Woods, at Woodhall Spa. This was a showing of “The Dam Busters” as a charity fund raiser – a brilliant gathering c/w flypasts by the BBMF Lancaster and a pair of Tornados!! 🙂

Puss in Boots

Antonio Banderas plays the titular feline hero, while Salma Hayek plays his accomplice/love interest in a fairytale inspired adventure. Great fun – especially since there’s no annoying talking donkey in the mix!

The Amazing Spiderman 2 (2014)
Saw this in 3D on Wednesday past. Excellent film and the 142 minutes just flew past. Great action and use of 3D, a decent love story and some very nice touches. Funny too.

Man of Steel (2013)
Courtesy of Sky Movies HD. Henry Cavill is Clark Kent/Superman/Kal-El in a re-boot of a reboot. After a decent but poorly received Superman Returns (2006), this attempts to start the series off again and is a pretty decent effort. Henry Cavill certainly looks the part, the special effects are well done, if a little overdone in places. It merges plots from a few previous stories but is decent enough for all that.

Julia Roberts is a law student who stumbles across a conspiracy in government and is helped by journalist Denzil Washington, Decent, exciting thriller based on a Grisham book.

All the President’s Men (1976)
Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman are journalists who come across a conspiracy in government. Fine drama made better by knowing it’s a true story.

Me too then if it’s as bad as that. I have been watching a lot of 1940s films of late on BBC Iplayer. some quite good ones on there.
