The least desired country to live in…

Flex, as for that comment about local muslims – grrr; i’d kill you if it wasn’t so damn ironic. Actually, hundreds of thousands of muslims from all kinds of enthnic groups live in Serbia. Once met an Iraqi family who live just down the road from me in Belgrade (they wander around in Arabic robes all day long speaking perfect Serbian – with a Belgrade accent).

It was damn ironic.. 😉 and in some way somehow was not.. I have been in former Yugoslavia quite a lot.. I have been doing vacation in Sibenik and heard sound of bombs and mortar rounds coming from a place some 20 kms away.. At that time people were really crazy.. In the place where we have stayed two men have been slaughtered on the street by Croatian crowd just for singing some Serbian song. I am sure there were many incidents like this on all sides..

I hope the situation is different now.. Haven’t been there since quite a while..

I thought Romania was great – really liked the churches with frescos on the outside and the people were triple friendly.

As for undesirable countries to live in, here’s my list:

Hungary – flat and boring and weird and just downright depressing for some reason. Also, nobody has ever (EVER) been polite to me in Hungary, ever. And I’ve been to/through their funny little country a lot.

Australia+South Africa (but not New Zealand) – dunno why. Maybe its because I’m a Londoner and, frankly, we’re sick of Aussies and South Africans. Maybe its because of the Accents. Definitely the accents have something to do with it. Met a totally gorgeous girl a few days ago but when she opened her mouth and a twisted, deformed, Aussie version of English spewed out I just wanted to batter her face with a heavy object.

Any part of North America (Canada included) – Again, no real reason, just absolutely totally nothing in any way whatsoever attracts me to this part of the world. That and I think I’d commit suicide if I ever had to see a ‘mega-church’.

As for the UK, Burger-boy is spot on when he says:

I wish Aussies and South Africans would get the message and stop bloody coming here. :diablo:

From my own experience, some eastern bloc countries are totally OK.. Czech Rep., Slovak Rep., richer parts of Poland, Estonia, Slovenia.. They are usually being presented in Hollywood movies as grey dull places full of white smoke (I don’t actually know what the smoke should represent ;)) but the reality is usually pretty much different..

hmmm USA, Russia, Singapore to name a few for starts.

New Jersey actually is a great place, once you get out of the cities (and even they have their advantages), nice coastline and small scenic towns and the folks are nice…it’s like that in a lot of places on the east coast of the US once you get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. I grew up in Colorado so am used to the more laid back western pace of the western US, have worked on fishing boats in California and spent 4-5 years of my life out there and can recommend that to ANYONE, a very nice area. Course, we’re getting crowded here in Colorado due to the fact that folks have started to figure out our tornadoes, when we have them aren’t very big, hurricanes are non-existant, the weather even in winter can get up to the 70’s F in January, the scenery is impeccable, and the ONLY thing in nature that will kill you really is a rock slide/avalanche/bear attack, and all of those are rare but do happen, but usually only to one or two people at a time. We had a NZ rugby team through here a few years ago and they LOVED it here and I know about 5 Brits who have moved here permanently (the British always DID love the West, it was the last great adventure frontier back in the 1800’s)…

This is rapidly turning into a ‘what’s your favorite place’ thread…ah well…

BTW, Slovenians are very interesting people.. Their country is beautiful and almost as clean as Austria.. Serbs and Croatians are pretty crazy, no doubt about that..

really depressing place. depressing mood.. really drab architecture and buildings (even by Eastern European standards). Romanian girls are cute though.. but they all seem to be dating their gymnastics coaches 😉 :diablo:

I say Bulgaria ranks up there too, and somewhat Hungary..but at least the latter has had a good rise in living standards and economy that prevents it from being as bad as the former 2.

I myself have recently spent 3 months in Canada, and I agree with what was said: polite, clean, wealthy, but a bit boring. And I left Toronto during fall, never met the winter…

I was surprised with my own hapiness when I got back to ole Brazil. Next hope is Aussieland.

I would imagine that North Korea must come pretty high on the list of least desired countries in which to live: no food, repressive dictatorship and wall-to-wall propaganda. This is the picture that comes from the media of course, but if it were incorrect, why do the NK government not try to correct it?

I couldn’t agree more!

Australia is fine – I like their accents.
I do not like elitst sounding english accents – like the one Madonna
has ended up with. Everyday english-citizen accents are fine.

NJ accents (like the one I have when I let myself go) are abarsive,
confrontational, and not pleasent. Some areas are really bad.
Where I grew up, people there now speak wiht a combined
NY/NJ Italian/ spanish/puerto rico/ inner city accent. It’s pretty
bad.

In fact, the Sopranos takes place where I grew up. The nudie
bar, Bada-bing, is Satin dolls, a go-go bar 10 minutes from my
house. My best friend installed the plumbing there.
People are killed on the show at places I used to go all the time.
I’d like to say th eaccents are over the top, and th ebehavior is
fake… but every time I go back I’m reminded that it’s not.

My accent throws people off down here in the South. I’m very
loud, with a heavy, mean sounding NJ mobster accent – I’m
Sicilian so waddaya ‘spect? People see me, a big, mean-looking
guy with a heavy mobster accent and they think I’m mean.

I’ve heard Austria is gorgeous however the most beautiful place i’ve seen is montana.

Well, it depends.. I used to travel thru whole Austria on the way from Kosice to Regensburg and back roughly twice a month, the place is small, absolutely tidy, absolutely clean, pretty wealthy (never seen as many sport cars located on one place as there) and also pretty boring.. It is a fantastic place to settle down with a wife, plant a tree and grow some children but I am not quite into these kind of things yet.. Wien is large and pretty nice but frankly, it does not attract me really.. Even if I have enough time, I seldom go down to the city even if I am there quite often, I usually just drive thru..

Frankfurt am Main is my European No.1…

I wouldn’t wan’t to live in a war zone………….sooner or later I’ll be there anyway (joining the RAF) so would find it challenging enough spending a 6 month tour of duty there without actually living there…………….

Ummmm sudan,somalia,N korea come to mind but there are so many more that i really wouldnt want to live in..Comming to the US of A..i think that if u’re looking for an all in one place to go to I’d go to that place on the west coast called California..South central cali…u’ve got the seqouia natianal park,Las Vegas,LA and the southern coast all a few hours from each other..the social life is awsome,there is plenty of nature and wildlife..and the women are pretty good too…Sanfransisco is simply beautiful and my favourite city in the US and the surroundings are just gorgeous..However the valley (specially freemont,hayward,oakland,tracey) does have higher crime rates.. If i could afford it i would live in a town called Tiberon close to SF however it is one of the most expensive per capita real estate in the US..I’ve heard Austria is gorgeous however the most beautiful place i’ve seen is montana.

actually talk like that… You watch a mob show based in NY/Nj
and think the way they talk is exaggerated, think again.

It’s not that bad, actually. You want a bad accent, try a new
england accent. California accents can be really annoying as
well.
