The long awaited LHR-parking deck shots!

edited to add: Apologies for the typo in the subject line. It seems I am unable to change this.

As per request fro several of you I will be displaying some of the better photos from Heathrow’s T5 parking deck. The term “better” is relative, as most of the shots ended up rather crappy as the light was bad. The weather forecast was for a sunny afternoon, but I for one did not see it.

Please don’t judge the photos on their quality. I had no intention to post them at all. Just consider this as a illustration on what can be done/seen from T5. I just hope that next time the weather will be more favourable. For what it’s worth, next time will be 04-05 october. Anyone else going to the airliners.net spotters meet?

In summary of what was mentioned in previous threads about this place:

* The view is great when 09L is used for landings.
* The planes parked/taxiing nearby are BA narrowbody airbusses exclusively.
* There is a large fence for all but a meter.
* That meter will be fenced of as well sooner or later.
* The fittings are already there, so my bet is on sooner!
* The fence makes photography impossible without bringing a tall ladder.
* BAA would probably not see the humour in above suggestion.
* In the words of the official I chatted with, “big cameras” are not allowed. Small ones are. He considered it a stupid rule as well.

Spotting is taken very seriously near East Perimeter Road (BMI hangars)…

nice pics!

I can’t believe how sad some Police Officers are. Proper Jobsworths.

Terrorism act?! Are they for real….so is that just a caution or are you now a known terrorist?! :diablo:

Nah it means nothing. That article is just an excuse to stop anyone they please and ask for identifcation.

The officer mentioned how impressed he was with my Dutch ID-card. He was day-dreaming out loud on how the UK should introduce something similar. Well, fair enough. However, the plod does not seem to know how to read. As my first name he wrote down my first name and my first christian name. For my family name he used my second christian name. My actual family name was not written down! So having an ID card really solves nothing!

Edited to add: the card has descriptions in Dutch and English, and the family name is in bold. So there is no way he could (should) have missed it.

Ahhh, T5. They’ve even blocked off one end of departures as too many people we’re watching the aircraft…
