The Manby Board

Does anyone know what became of the ‘Manby Board’. It comprised a panel of exotic woods and representations of RAF activity. Probably dating from the 1940’s – 1950’s and originating at the RAF Station of the same name at a time when the College of Air Warfare was in residence.

If the ‘Manby Board’ was displayed in Tedder Hall it may have moved with the CAW to Cranwell. At Cranwell it might have been displayed either in Trenchard Hall or York House Officers’ Mess. Today it is perhaps at the Air Warfare Centre or the Officers’ Mess at Waddington. Perhaps letters to the appropriate locations will help with tracking it down.

Unfortunately I have not seen the board pictured in your attachment, but some other boards do exist and they’re referenced in the RAF Manby entry in the East Lindsey aviation trail booklet (currently being updated / reprinted):

“The Station Commanders Board still exists in Guy Gibson House on Manby Park and in special circumstances this can be viewed by prior arrangement with the building tenants the Environment Agency. Many of the roads still proudly carry aircraft names that flew from RAF Manby.”
