well did they or didnt they,to some it sounds outrageous (or not)to suggest the parents could have caused madelines disapperance, but what responsible parents leave their small children alone in a foreign country at night and why didnt the twins wake up as maddy slept between them Discuss? 😎 😎

Gentlemen,
Can I just remind you all that the background to this thread is that a 4 year old girl has disappeared, fate unknown?
Please stay on topic, and save the mutual intercontinental points-scoring for another time.
Thanks
GA
thankyou for that interjection:cool:

Adam, youre right, it is a wee bit OTT. I cant think of anyone else who have had a child or adult member of their family vanish be blessed by the Pope, let alone hired that total pillock Max CLifford & charities normally get set up after some form of closure of the case, not at the begining. Bex

I became midly confused and bemused with the whole thing when I saw that the McCanns had gone to be blessed by the Pope, and had set up a website, charity, and merchandise, and had employed a publicist. A tad far/odd, don’t you think?

“From his location”…sheesh, get off your high horse. You’d think, sometimes, that people on the Eastern side of the pond had some sort of serious superiority complex.
Having recently moved from the West (California) to the East, Europe, I know a little of which I speak. This is not really the thread for this discussion, but I would only say that there is no comparison in the quality of life. We work to live, not live to work.;)

From his location, I think he is suggesting that this is an everyday occurrence, of no small consequence. The fact that it happened to professional people, relaxing on holiday and not far from their responsiblities is probably not something that will be appreciated on the other side of the pond.
First off, my being American and these people being European has absolutely nothing to do with what I think about the situation. The fact that you think that I have a certain mindset based on my nationality actually says far more about you than what I said says about me.
Regardless, my problem is that these social interest stories are becoming the norm in the news media. When one person out of four billion or so goes missing, why in the world is that a major international headline? What about the fact that oil has hit a record high? Or the fact that, in the USA, the moratorium on not taxing the internet is set to expire November 1st? Somebody went missing. It happens. And you know what? If I wasn’t inundated with the details every thirty seconds I might be moved to actually give a damn anymore, rather than get irritated at the latest attempt to keep real, pertinent information out of my hands.

People just have no faith in good old social Darwinism anymore.
Sean, dont wish to appear rude or sarcastic, but would u mind translating that into english please. Im a practicle person but not very intellectual, in uvver words a bit trick 😀 Ta, Bex

Oh cool, I see you guys have discovered just what is wrong with Western society these days. One person out of a few billion goes missing, and it becomes an international fiasco. People just have no faith in good old social Darwinism anymore.

I agree, having two children of my own I can not understand why their children where left unattended.
Regards,
John.
Hope u didnt think I was having a pop at u John, I qouteed you to emphasize my not wanting to get into a daft debate over who dunnit. What tickles me is how 2 supposed very intelligent people (doctors) and would have seen the results of such actions during their training could go out and leave the kids. I think we’ll just have to wait until the end of all this to find out.

Its fair to say that there is a lot of this case that does not add up or make sense, In part this is probably because the police in portugal deal with crimes differently than we do in the UK and do not reveal much to the press, In this case it has fed rumour and half leaked information leaving us with only part of the story and some of the facts.
If i am to be honest i have not been completely convinced with the parents version of events, And like everybody i have a theory of what may have happened, But everybody is innocent until proven guilty and its not for us to judge that.

Should this forum be used for this type of discusion?, I think not, who are we to judge whatever the circumstances.John.
General Discussion. The Forum for non aviation topics. Yes, this subject qualifies. King Macaan is a science fiction character. The title of the thread should read McCann. What amazes me is that the parents are Doctors, but is this mentioned in the newspapers? The journalists predeliction with titles and authority would usually emphasise the titles of the subjects.

John.
Im not going to get into a debate about the “who dunnit” side of things, but as a parent I will comment about the leaving a child. My stepson is 5 in a couple of weeks, and my partner and I have never gone out and left him alone and I can not for the life of me fathom how any parent could go out for a meal and leave children unattended, let alone in a foreign country. Still cant get my head round that one. Bex
