Wonder why this hasn’t been mentioned yet. Anybody?
Ukip in new racism row after Lenny Henry insult
More UK Independence Party election candidates make prejudiced comments on the internet, including one who said Lenny Henry, the comedian, should leave Britain to live in a “black country”Nigel Farage is facing a new racism row after it emerged that more of his UK Independence Party election candidates made prejudiced comments on the internet.
In one statement, a candidate standing in next month’s local council elections suggested on Twitter that the comedian, Lenny Henry should leave Britain to live in a “black country”.
The party insisted it would investigate and act upon any comments from candidates that breach its “non-racist, non-sectarian” values.
The disclosures followed a week in which a series of publicity gaffes threatened to damage Ukip’s hopes in the European Parliament and local council elections taking place on May 22.
The party was forced to suspend one of the stars of its European election broadcast when it emerged he had published a series of racist remarks on Twitter.
In the latest controversy, William Henwood, a Ukip candidate for election in Enfield, north London, responded on Twitter to a speech by Mr Henry, in which the actor suggested there were not enough ethnic minority faces on television.
According to his Twitter account, the Ukip candidate said: “He should emigrate to a black country. He does not have to live with whites.”
A Ukip candidate in Camden, Magnus Nielsen, claimed that 70 per cent of mosques in the UK have been “taken over” by “fundamentalists”.
According to his Facebook page, he said: “Islam is organised crime under religious camouflage. Any Muslim who is not involved in organised crime is not a ‘true believer’, practising Islam as Mohammed commanded.”
In a statement, Ukip said that the party was “non-racist, non-sectarian” and that “any comments made by members that fail to uphold these values will be duly investigated and acted upon”.
Last week, Mr Farage admitted that Ukip’s candidate-vetting procedures had failed after a man with racist views was granted a starring role in the party’s election broadcast.
The Ukip leader said he was “very angry” that Andre Lampitt, a Zimbabwean kitchen fitter, was given a prominent role in the television broadast.
Mr Lampitt, who is a Ukip council candidate, posted a series of racist messages on Twitter, saying Islam is “evil” and claiming Ed Miliband is not British.
Henwood told the BBC:
“I think if black people come to this country and don’t like mixing with white people why are they here? If he (Henry) wants a lot of blacks around go and live in a black country.”
Gosh, another triumph for Farage’s non racist political party. Maybe bigoted political party would be a better description.
(For those who really want to know Henwood came from Zimbabwe – or Rhodesia as he apparently still refers to it – whereas Lenny Henry was born in Dudley, in the Black Country. Can you work out who the immigrant is?)
Still, carry on blaming the mean and biased media for pointing out where UKIP fall down; it’s nothing to do with the candidates they choose.;o)
Hmm, at least the wheels haven’t come off Farage’s campaign. Chipped paint and battered bodywork, maybe, but still rolling…
Ukip bus crashes into Portsmouth station
The Ukip campaign double-decker bus collided with a Portsmouth railway station canopy as the driver attempted to manoeuvre out of a car park after greeting party leader Nigel Farage.
The purple bus, with only one passenger on board, arrived at Portsmouth & Southsea to greet Mr Farage, who is visiting the city as part of his campaign for the forthcoming European elections.
But the collision happened as the bus appeared to make a U-turn as it could not fit under the railway platform bridge at the exit of the car park.
The bus appeared to suffer damage to the front although only minor damage appeared to have been sustained by the canopy.
People gathered and looked out at windows laughing at the bus’s mishap, which happened after Mr Farage had left to meet local people.
Staff at the railway station also came out of the building to inspect the damage to the canopy.

Wonder if it was a foreign driver…?

Thank you. I admire the certainty of your hope although we part company on most of their aspirations.

Your choice of course Matt, but what exactly are you hoping for by voting “green”?
Before I state reasons, I realise the up coming election is just a European Election, but looking ahead at the big picture….
Staying part of the EU, keeping the NHS public, Better equality, better treatment of the environment (including anti-fracking) , a decent living wage, they come across to me at the moment of being the only party that actually cares about the people by which I mean ALL the people , re-nationalising the railways, de-criminalising drugs (I am a firm believe this will benefit the UK in the long run) , & a crack down Animal Welfare.
There’s a few reasons to be going with. They are currently the only party that appeal to me, if they didn’t exist I’d probably go labour, but I find labour very uninspiring at the moment…

The latest news doing the rounds is that those ukip muppets got their anti-Europe leaflets printed in Germany to save money…
also, “A small chance to make a change.” is one of the many reasons I am voting green. It is a vote based on hope, rather than fear.

I did not refer to ‘immigrants’. People could perhaps be ‘imported’ from the overcrowded South East of England to the wastes of the Borders. There then, is an example that serves not to raise socialist hackles.
You can say that now, but I would love to stage a poll asking if readers thought you were referring to the importing of foreigners to Britain or the ‘importing’ of Britons from the South East of England to the ‘wastes of the Borders’. You are not helping yourself when using the word ‘import’ but describing the word ‘export’…
Your undistinguished colleague Snafu has enjoyed higher education – he might be able to assist.
Meow? Not sure I can anyway – too busy at the moment helping you choose the right term for your chosen scenario. Hope it’s nothing long term…

The reasons rightly or wrongly people will vote ukip
1,Protest vote ,most voters throughout their lives have had very little choice -suddenly a new kid on the block–Time for a new option/ protest.
2,Immigration-Regardless of the people saying immigration isn’t a problem–well guess what? to a large percentage it is,they are just shouted down and told your racist and un P/C and most people are neither of those but just fed up with it.
3,Perceived and real powers and corruption in Europe
4,A small chance to make a change.

At what point do we stop importing people? There is, on a finite island only so much space.
Your quote. Nothing to do with people moving from the South East. But you knew that.
What was it you said about wriggling?
From Nigel Farage in 2010
“Let me make this clear to you: UKIP is not against immigration. We welcome immigration; we want immigration.”
How odd…..
I’d better be careful. I don’t want the police around…….

Wriggle as is your custom; wars are fought primarily – whatever other guise might be promulgated – for economic reasons. Do a bit more reading. Your undistinguished colleague Snafu has enjoyed higher education – he might be able to assist.

I make no reference to long queues and immigrants.
Yes you did.
At what point do we stop importing people? There is, on a finite island only so much space. I’ve been flying over much of Britain for over fifty years and I’ve witnessed the changes. Around my home airfield, I’ve seen the green field infill and still it goes on.
I know everyone has to live somewhere but, when do we stop? 70, 80 or 100 million ? During the most mundane activity on a day-to-day or, weekly basis, whether it be shopping at the supermarket or buying fuel, one has to queue.
My bolding of your quote. The implication is clear. As is the furious back-pedaling.
I’m trying to think of a 20th or even 21st century conflict that wasn’t caused by nationalism/imperialism or ideology. I can see that territorial desires may be driven by resources but the root cause is still nationalism. When Hitler wanted to create lebensraum he did it under a German national flag.

Re 170
There is nothing wrong with ‘nationalism’ – everything in moderation. You are obviously not a student of geo political forces otherwise you would know better than to make a sweeping statement about nationalism being a major cause of war.
Wars are fought for primarily economic factors. That is the underlying cause. Advancement, promotion and control of resources.
Read again my comment. I make no reference to long queues and immigrants. The reference was to PEOPLE. I know that you are a socialist and therefore your judgment is at variance with the good sense of the majority who aren’t.

Urrrrrrrgh ukip’s antics are making my blood boil more and more by the day… and I am concerned by what I read around various posts on social network sites at how many people are falling for their bull**** .
If ukip put a stop to immigration, and there are still no jobs, I wonder who people would turn on next? homosexuals? The disabled? Women?
When did everyone become so hateful? Surely humans are better united? The world is changing, more and more cultures are starting to entwine with each other. It’s time people started embracing it, rather than creating propaganda to feed peoples’ fear and hate. No amount of ‘foreigners’ are going to stop you being English/Scottish/Welsh/ whatever.
All my opinion of course. I feel better for getting that off my chest.
I can’t disagree with that.
Nationalism and to a lesser extent religion/ideology have been the causes of the vast majority of wars and conflicts and yet we still tolerate and indeed celebrate it. This forum had a thread that derided organized religion has a root cause for for many problems and yet nationalism with its symbolism and flag-waving goes unchallenged.
I also doubt that queues are longer due to immigration. It is much more likely to be due to reduction in services and staff, more OAPs, more leisure time, and any number of other factors. Blaming immigration is sadly typical of the right wing requirement for a scapegoat for everything.
By: snafu - 14th May 2014 at 21:12
At what point do we stop importing people?
How about when our people, Britons, are able to fill those gaps that highly skilled foreign workers (the ‘good‘ immigrants) currently fill, as well as when Britons also feel up to taking all the low skill, low pay jobs that are just as, if not more, important but current filled by non-choosy low skilled foreign workers (the ‘bad‘ immigrants)?
I know everyone has to live somewhere but, when do we stop? 70, 80 or 100 million ? During the most mundane activity on a day-to-day or, weekly basis, whether it be shopping at the supermarket or buying fuel, one has to queue.
Walking along the pedestrianised area in my local town is, because of crowding, no easy task. Thousands of people on any day of the week accompanied by prams, pushchairs, bikes, shopping trolleys – all needing space. It is next to impossible to stride out and get somewhere in excess of the walking speed of the crowd. Go for a cup of tea and you will queue. GP’s waiting rooms and motorways stuffed with people and cars.
And it is immigrants causing the queues?;o)
Sorry – my local pedestrian precinct is never full of people; the last time I had to weave through massed throngs there was during a diamond jubilee event in 2012, and that was mainly because the council had built a stage across the precinct blocking off most of the thoroughfare. Same with the next town; Tuesday is market day and if they spaced out the stalls a bit better (to hide the gaps and empty shops) then there would be plenty of room instead of the opportunity to get your ankles skinned by an OAP speeding along on their mobility scooter.
Queuing at a cafe might have something to do with the staff chatting to their favourite customers (all too frequent an occurrence, I’ve found) or being unable to decipher between different types of cake or coffee and having to confer with the boss. And much as we would all enjoy being able to drop into the docs without needing to wait, that would mean they’d have time on their hands and that is inefficient – I’d love to get paid for doing nothing but wait, but no one wants to play ball on that one…
Why are “humans better united ?” To me that is an empty phrase beloved of politicians and sociologists. Why on earth would we want to ‘entwine’ with each other? I have little to nothing in common with most people nor do they with me. For the last fifteen or so years we’ve been driven to exasperation with political advice to embrace ‘diversity’ and yet if I read you correctly you want us all to throw our arms around unwashed strangers and enjoy a lovefest !
If we aren’t united I guess we are all battling each other individually? Many hands make light work…?
Sure you can think of your own cliche to apply here… Not sure I want to go about hugging all and sundry, although it might help fill the doctors spare time.
UKIP are popular – at the moment, of that there is little doubt, and the reason? They are prepared to talk about -hopefully in a meaningful way, widespread concerns about not only immigration but the relevance of the EU to the future of Britain. In a week or two we will know something about their popularity or otherwise.
Unfortunately UKIP take this apparent ‘plus’ point and run it up the figurative flag pole with the crazy rantings of people who think gay marriage causes flooding* and are not afraid to admit it.
(*Many other crazy rantings are available…)

British Asian Ukip youth leader quits ‘racist’ and ‘terrifying’ Ukip
Sanya-Jeet Thandi, who defended her support of Ukip on Channel 4 News, says the party is now appealing to ‘stupidity of ignorant anti-immigrant voters for electoral gain’
A British Asian leader of Ukip’s youth wing has quit the party, branding it “racist” and “terrifying”.
Sanya-Jeet Thandi, who had been introduced at Ukip’s party conference as a future leader, said the party has abandoned its core supporters and now appealed to the “stupidity of ignorant anti-immigrant voters for electoral gain”.
Miss Thandi appeared on Channel 4 News this week to defend her membership but has now quit the party and is calling on other Ukip supporters to boycott the upcoming European and local elections.
Miss Thandi, who joined Ukip at 17 as events co-ordinator of the youth wing and spoke at the party conference, said new Ukip posters pointing the finger at immigration “epitomise” what has gone wrong with the party.
Nigel Farage has recently sought to rid Ukip of its racist image by appearing at a rally flanked by 40 ethnic minority supporters. At an event in London, he said: “I don’t care what you call us, but from this moment on, please do not call us a racist party.”
However, the strategy, Ms Thandi said, is not “good enough” to reverse the “form of racist populism” that had developed in the party over the last three years.
Over the last few weeks a string of Ukip candidates have been exposed as harbouring racist views. Andre Lampitt, who featured in the party’s election broadcast, was suspended after saying Ed Miliband was “not a real Brit” and describing Islam as an “evil organisation”.
Another supporter said Lenny Henry, the comedian, should emigrate to a “black country”.
Mr Farage said people with “offensive and idiotic” views had managed to join the party, despite his efforts to vet candidates and imposing a ban on former BNP and National Front members.
Ms Thandi, a privately-educated London School of Economics student born to Punjabi parents, joined Ukip because she said David Cameron was “going soft”.
Three years ago, she agreed with Ukip’s policy on immigration because current policy favoured Eueopeans over other migrants when her grandparents had to “work so hard” to come to England, she said.
Miss Thandi, who grew up in Kent, became one of Mr Farage’s biggest cheerleaders, telling The Times that Mr Farage was “a babe” and describing Godfrey Bloom as “cute and so kind and hilarious, he just says things for the reaction. Lovely guy but a bit misunderstood”.
However, announcing her resignation on The Guardian website Miss Thandi said people with “racist views” had now been slipping through Ukip’s checks “time and time again”.
She wrote: “In order to convince society they are not racist they need to stop giving positions in the party to people with racist views.
“It is not good enough to say that these individuals just slipped through the net, time and time again. Yes, Ukip is still a relatively young party.
“No, that is not an excuse to allow racists to stand for election. Nor is it an excuse to exploit the ignorance in British society and indulge the racist vote by telling them ‘they’ll take your jobs’.”
Obviously Farage will have to give her job to another ‘true believer’ who thinks he is a babe…

Head cop says he doesn’t know why his underlings visited the blogger…
Cambridgeshire police chief condemns blogger visit
A chief constable said his officers should not have attended the home of a blogger who tweeted “fact checks” about UKIP.
Green Party member Michael Abberton claimed officers advised him to delete the tweet, which the police deny.
Cambridgeshire’s chief constable Simon Parr said: “In this instance police attendance was not required.”
UKIP said it contacted the police because it believed the tweet breached Electoral Commission rules.
As a result two officers visited Mr Abberton.
Mr Parr said: “I believe in this instance police attendance was not required and I have asked for our approach to this sort of incident to be reviewed to ensure we do not get involved unless there is clear evidence that an offence may have been committed.”
Officers said no further action would be taken against the blogger.
UKIP national nominating officer Pete Reeve confirmed he had contacted the police and the Electoral Commission about the tweet.

Police – no sense of proportion?
