Acceptable but a bit old fashioned.

The 777s are leaving the fleet for more 767s I believe.

Saab……..here here to that! I guess that I am becoming an “avio-dinosaur” in my old age, but as EGNM says it will be around a while yet.

Latest picture on planepictures.net of an aeroflot 777 was 15 August 2002 and on Airliners.net, January 23 2003.
Im pretty sure they still do operate them.

Interflug,
I to love the hammer and sickle. I think it is probably one of the most honoured and respected symbols of commercial aviation- A famous characteristic of the once world’s largest airline. I think Aeroflot should absorb its history, rather than dispose of it as if it had never existed, because what it represented was an airline which to every sense of the word was “uniquely Russian” and presented an experience characterised only by CIS airlines. I would of loved Aeroflot to continue with it, but sadly this idea did not flourish as they tried to western orientated their image and become your average airline with a standard image and western fleet.
I enjoyed seeing the hammer and sickle because like you I love the former and modern day CIS airlines and aircraft. I can honestly say that in my eyes the hammer and sickle may have disappeared off the aircraft but it will always be a reminder of an excellent era in civilian aviation.

I’m not interested in the political overtones of the “old” Aeroflot logo but as a long time enthusiast of Soviet/Eastern Bloc airlines and aircraft, for me personally its the closing of an era. I don’t criticise that-just saying farewell to it and posting the image-Enjoy!

Yeah the sickle symbol is the reason behind the change. To re-brand itself as a western orientated airline it had to get rid of an image, which did not enforce Russia’s new political and social image.
Personally I think it is a symbol of a well-respected airline who before the break up of the USSR, was the worlds biggest airline. It is sad to see it go, however, if Aeroflot wants a new image then ridding itself of any former symbols is the way to go about. Thus, the media (who created a bad perception of Aeroflot) can no longer criticise it but rather praise it as a western standard airline.
The airline has a long way to go to reach their competitors standards but a new western fleet and a new image, which is comparable to any other world airline, is the way to go about it. My only hope is that the new style is made uniform throughout the network as the image Aeroflot wants to shed is present mainly on their domestic and CIS services rather than the western services. However, I would hope they could keep their “Uniquely Russian” status.

getting rid of that sickel symbol was one of the main reasons for the facelift.

Goodbye old friend………The spottings been fun!

Thanks for the picture Saab.
It’s certainly a nice colour scheme. Is that grey on the fuselage actually grey or is it a bare metal effect?
Also, you said it reminded you of Delta and BA, I see what you mean. I was also thinking United with the grey, blue and red.
A superior colour scheme, one I look forward to seeing in the flesh!

Okay, but not exactly eye-catching
By: Saab 2000 - 8th March 2003 at 19:33
A very similar tail design to BA and Delta don’t you think?
By: A330Crazy - 8th March 2003 at 19:05
I like the design on the tail. 🙂
By: Hand87_5 - 8th March 2003 at 14:58
I like it .
By: KabirT - 8th March 2003 at 14:56
not bad…not bad at all.
By: Selsport69 - 8th March 2003 at 14:32
I think it looks brill. Certainly a big improvement for an airline that is trying to get it right in all departments.
By: MSR777 - 8th March 2003 at 13:47
Could have been worse! At least they have kept the Cyrillic script.
