The Mother of all Vulcan Tribute Video's…

Well after the recent success of XH558 return to her natural habitat I was driven to make the mother of all Vulcan tributes in some small way as a thank you for all the work in making a British Aviation icon return to the sky…;)

Although having never really much more than tinkered with video editing I have tried to make something a little bit different than the usual as seen on youtube and the like!

So far after nearly two weeks of gathering material for said tribute and another week learning how to use the new software I have managed to piece together a whole minute of Avros finest…

So where better than to air it here and see what you think…

This is only the second video I’ve ever really made and it’s a WIP project so constructive criticism only please gentlemen..

VX927, thats only what I’ve got around to do so far, overall it will be around the 5 minute mark.

I understand what you mean about the text, but I need to put something down for those not versed in Vulcan history – more tweaking in order will solve that… 😉

I hope to cover the whole 9 yards in the end, whether I can get that amount of footage ( Hence the three-in-one sequence) in the 5 minute mark, or will have to lenghthen it will be found out in due course!

Thanks for the input, VX….:)

Lastly, can i just add… i think a bit of ‘modern’ footage would be good… Or i it a tribute to the development of the aircraft rather than the actual aircraft?

Blue Sky,

For what it’s worth, here are my thoughts… I though that the introduction was too long… 18seconds of a 1 minute film is a long time to introduce “Vulcan – cold war warrior”. I couldn’t read the text while watching the Vulcan roll… I think it speaks for itself… I’d loose the text, and increase the picture size.

But overall, i think it’s great… Far better than i could do!!!

As for constructive critisism there are two points I would like to offer, firstly the roll that Roly Falk did appears to be speeded up a little, not much but enough to give you the wrong impression.
Yes I noticed that, only a tad though to keep it in sync with the sound track…

Also the transitions are too quick, there is not enough time for you to read the captions and then absorb the picture.

Well, there again they needed to be to keep with the rhythm, otherwise it would have been far to long, its not a problem that can’t be got around, just can’t think of how to achieve it yet… 😉

What is the soundtrack?, this doesn’t sound very ‘British’ to me, has more of an Irish feel which may not sit well with this very British machine.

Last of the Mohican’s… Most of the ‘British’ sound tracks I heard sounded very dour and down beat and as I didn’t want to use any modern instrumentals I chose the Promontory. It’s beautifully simple and works well with the video…

I’ve given it a go over again especially the main title sequence, which I think is more pleasing to the eye than the one before. The changes I’ve made have resulted in a altogether tighter tribute.

Still along way to go but am experimenting with different ways to put more information on the screen without it looking cluttered.

The link below will show the last update and on another note does anyone know where I can get a good ‘Cutaway’ drawing for this…

Thanks to everyone…

Good for a first effort, but the music is definitely more Irish than anything!

While we’re advertising our video work then, I’ll briefly go hugely off topic and throw in a link for the promotional video I made for the Bluebird Project!

A good start MrBluSky,

Ok thats three points:o , seriously though it is a good start and I myself have only just got to grips with you-tube and know how difficult it is for the technically challenged.

Keep em commin:D .

John.
