The Next Forum Get-together

Post your ideas for the next forum get-together.

I would like to see:

Option 1

A meeting in the North of England for those further up country, comprising of:

A Saturday afternoon, hosted at one aviation orientated facility.

Transport co-ordination so everyone gets to cheap hotel for one night. Ale house fun for those who wish, quiet drinx in hotel for the old and not so bold.

A Sunday morning, hosted at another facility.

1200ish, endex and rtb.

Option 2:

Legends. Use the Flypast Tent to meet and greet old friends, thereby allowing flex to do what we want on the show. Problem here is maybe some (Snapper?) may have their specific pitches at the show. Maybe you could tell us wandering, chilled folk where you are?

An overnight rv somewhere (Cambridge?)would be fun for those who were at Day 1 to review the show and drink, and for those who could pre-position for Day 2 and meet forum members.

Again, transport co-ordination would be helpful.

Over to you, fellow enthusiasts…..

Dezz…the place near Folkstone you’re thinking of is Capel-le-ferne 🙂

RE: The Next Forum Get-together

I would be more than happy to organise something at Duxford again, although I would be equally happy to go along with any of the previous suggestions 🙂

I like the idea of the ‘Forum Roadshow’ idea Tony, be nice to meet up with people at times at shows in the summer and it will save me talking to myself.

Gary

you forget that I could give you a lift if I’m around and possibly we and Seafuryfan could end up going places to meet the others!!!

Hendon would be a great place…..I have found cheap hotel rooms on the net so a boys (and Mrs Dezz of course!!) trip in Lundung could be amusing!!

I like the idea of someone starting a thread sayingwhere and when they are going and others can make it….a sort of Forum Getogether Roadshow!!
regards

Tony

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-01-03 AT 05:23 PM (GMT)]Duxford is looking best for me cos when I’m back in the UK, I Have to rely on car hire to get around and cost a bleeding fortune !!!. However, I’ll keep checking out the options and am all in favour of more than one meet a year as it give greater flexibility to most of us in that missing one, we could probably get to the next.

Coventry with a flight in a Dak might worth looking at, its fairly central (navigation is not my strong point…I still think County durham is in Ireland !!!) and the chance of a load of us up in the Gooney bird could be memorable.

Or perhaps….ohhhh I dont know, I can think of loads but not being in the Uk aint much help is it really !.

Keep thinking

cheers

Gary

RE: The Next Forum Get-together

Hows about, we have a few meet-ups throughout the year.

One at Hendon / Imperial War Museum (2 609 Sqn Spitfires in one day / weekend!!!). Maybe head to St Clement Danes, the RAF church, too.

One at Cosford / Midlands Air Museum

One at Elvington / Breighton (609 memorial room, with plenty of space in the donations box I am sure! Foods good too, and cheaper than Kevs Pasty Beans and chips at Duxford on Sunday)

Perhaps a Kent one around Battle of Britain day, taking in Hawkinge, Manston, Gravesend etc, plus Capel-Le-Ferne of course. A kind of mobile thing, with beer and ploughmans here and there.

I imagine many of us will be at Legends anyway, so we can all meet up for a beer or something. Personally I am busy throughout Legends this year – i’ll be there both days, but am involved with something thats going on during the days, and have something on for the evening too. The following day, the Monday, is when I’m aiming to unveil Johnny Wisemans memorial.

As for pitches, I used to go to the Flypast tent (free coffee etc) but have cancelled the subscription now. However, I have found a superior picture taking spot anyway. Up by the land warfare hall, there is far less clutter in the background, plus anything coming in from the right passes close by, as they tend to curve in. I imagine the other end is good like this too, but two Spits racing in at the absolute minimum distance from the crowd, banking slightly, beats the hell out of coffee.

Theres many things going on, and even if we just meet up, a kind of “I’m going here, who wants a coffee” it can be good. Instead of organising something specific, we can RV on any occasion where people are attending something.

I’ll be on the roof of Chadds for the Lowestoft Air Show. Except when I’m actually bothering to be at my desk…

My Mum lives in Steyning (I come from Shoreham), few miles up the road. If I ask nicely, she could make room for up to 4-5….

If we head south we could always go for the Shoreham show

RE: The Next Forum Get-together

Both options sound good to me, perhaps for a northern option we could co-ordinate it on a weekend when Breighton have a fly in, and then possibly Yorkshire Air Museum on the other day, just a thought.
I’m sure I could be convinced to sample the local ales in the evening as well.

In the meantime I will put some thought to other possible venues.

RE: The Next Forum Get-together

Just come up with option three. How about something in the Midlands? Cosford one afternoon, Midland Air Museum at Coventry the next morning?

RE: The Next Forum Get-together

Rick.

Put me down for options one and two, and if anyone comes up with an option three, I might just be persuaded….
