So here it is….my friend Denise and I are already laying plans to be in Reno next June (2006) for the great Mustang get together, and we are looking forward to it immensely (especially her as she really likes Horsey planes)…and as I was looking at it on the map the other day, I began to formulate a plan….Reno is incredibly close to San Francisco, and just south of San Fran is the Big Sur and Highway 1, the coastal highway that goes all the way down to LA…..if I were to take my Jeep on this expedition, I could continue on after the Mustang gathering and do something I’ve always wanted to do and take the Jeep, minus top and doors, all the way down highway 1, visiting some old haunts along the way (I lived in California off and on for about 4 years). Conceivably, and this is just a thought…there MIGHT just be a few seats open for any of the British contingent who might want to come over for the Mustang wingding and then see some of the west coast of the US….what do you guys think? I will have at that time (assuming I stay with this job) a two week paid vacation that I could use at that time, and looking at the route I would just reverse the route I used to get to Idaho in 1986 from California, I would drop down from Reno to Lake Tahoe (which is in a beautiful mountain area, saw one of the most incredible sunrises there one morning) over to the Highway, and south to about Santa Barbara, but the route is subject to variations.
This whole thing hinges on the condition of the Jeep at that time, but as I have a year to get her in tip top shape, I reckon she’ll be up to the trip….at present i have a few items I need to take care of and want to get her in for a full tune up and to get the 4 wheel drive system working, making sure she’s getting the best gas mileage she can (new plugs are in the offing also)….
Will be interested to hear from any of you interested in this plan and if someone would be interested in going….
