The next Replica / Reproduction?

OK, so we now have the Me 262 `s and FW 190`s flying, and the Oscars about to take wing, ( no doubt successfully as well) so any speculation on what will be next in terms of extinct, or nearly so types to be replicated on a production scale, ( ie 3-5 copies)
some other nearing completion are the P26 replica`s, and also a set of Boeing model 100`s.
Sure would love to see someone capitalise on Mr Powell`s fantastic efforts with the Mossie fuse, and build a few! ( not likely though 🙁 )

Heres one more.

Hello again to all,
I know that I already had my say at this thread but I had to post one more suggestion………The Northrup B-49 or YB-49 or XB-49 which ever you prefer.

Certainly the HP42 gets my vote – it’s soooo different from anything else. And to think that it is only a matter of time until we see one!!!

Dornier 335 please, or a Horten/Gotha 229. The latter at least would be simple enough to fabricate.

I would like to see new build Macchi 202’s.

Not sure if sourcing engines would be a problem though.

Paul

my choices are,
Saab J21A
seafury / fury
DH hornet
Airco DH10
Ju 88
wellington
Hampden
Manchester
and Defiant
on the subject of new build P51’s. it’d stop any more stock P51’s getting chopped into racers and maybe some may get turned back into stock configuration too (using new build parts) same goes for the seafurys too

I can’t see the point in building new Mustangs from sratch when there are so any around already that could be rebuilt. The energies, money and material would, in my opinion, be better spent on recreating something rarer and more interesting than just more Mustangs.

Well, Ican see that point of view from the airshow audienc’s point of view but it’s not their money that pays, and the people with the money to buy the things might have their own views? Quite a few wealthy aviators want a P-51D not because it’s a rare aeroplane, but because they want to fly a P-51D, full stop. Come to think of it, if I had pots of money I could well fancy a new-build TF-51D, all built to personal spec, and all brand new structure, a) because I could feel a lot more comfortabel about flying it to its limits, and b) because I would feel psychologically a lot less nervous than if I were flying a genuinely historic artifact. (Just as Mark Hanna used to say he enjoyed flying his Yak-50 more than MH434, he has always so conscious of the weight of heritage he was taking responsibility for in the Spitfire.)

Fiat CR32 should be feasible as the one in CuatroVientos is a replica incorporating a few parts from an original.

I’d like to see a F7F Tigercat and a DH Sea Hornet built, so I can see how they match up.

On the jet side, I’ve always wanted to see how an updated Vought F7U Cutlass made out of composites, decent engines, etc. would turn out.

This is already happening Rob, the first Mig-3 is due to fly in March 2005 with an Allison engine.

Oooooooh! This is good news 🙂 Who’s doing the reproduction?

Let’s not forget the Westland Wallace replica at Shuttleworth. The idea was to build two for a movie of the flight over Everest, but I believe the money ran out. Which is the problems with flying replicas as a rule.

Also, a quick glance at the problems that the Herb Tischler factores have had indicates the path of true replicahood never runs smooth.

As for the P-11c, there was a proposal for a ‘run’ of the a/c, but it never happened.

John Romain, when asked, said that ARCo would be interested in building a Gladiator or two (Mercury expertese) many years ago now.

Cheers!

Dreaming:
Messerschmitt Me 323 (completely unrealistic, but would presumably turn a few heads… Also, where to put it between airshows would be a slight problem.)

(A few years ago, I read something about a German group aiming at recreating a Dornier Do X. Don’t know what became of it, though.)

Saab J21A
Fiat G55
Westland Whirlwind (the fighter!)
Heinkel He 112
LeO 451
Dornier Do 17Z
DH 103 Hornet

Perhaps realistic:
ASJA Jaktfalk (Swedish mid ‘thirties biplane figher)
Fokker C VE
Breguet 19
Fiat CR 32

I for one would be extremely happy if just ONE of the above ever gets replicated/rebuilt and put back in the air.

Regards,

Jan

I’d like to see the Russians get back in the game again, this time with new-production Mig-3 fighters. Not sure if there would be a viable engine for it though.

This is already happening Rob, the first Mig-3 is due to fly in March 2005 with an Allison engine.
Someone mentioned the P-26..this is happening as well, one fuselage being on display at Oshkosh.

thats it! beautiful picture as well.
I watched this one going together, as I manage to get up to the Kimball`s shop in Zellwood when I get over to florida,
it was amazing to watch it become a Gee Bee, and they turned out their typical showpiece workmanship, I bet the real one never looked this good! 🙂

Funny that it should have “City of Springfield” on the cowling, and be painted yellow…! 😉

This is the GeeBee replica that is now in Kermit Weeks’ Fantasy of Flight museum. Photo taken by me in 2002.

well I did`nt take the Gee Bee picture, but you can go to the site and see more:
http://www.goldenaviation.com/
problem is they started with all kinds of ambition, and now have gone very very quiet, they do not answer email, too bad as they had said they would kit the aircraft.
RE the Rocketeer, that was the Gee Bee model Z, built by the late Bill Turner, it was flown in the movie by Craig Hoskins, of upside down Pitts fame, who after getting out said NEVER AGAIN! ( Turner made a bunch of changes to make it fly “better”, but as it turns out another Z model was built by Kevin Kimball some years later, ( now in the Weeks museum) and it flew quite well, or so said Delmar Benjamin.
I love replica racers!

Yep, there was 😉

I was thinking about this “new-build Mustang” thing a while ago, and remember that there was talk of someone in Eastern Europe building parts of them. Funnily enough, the Stewart S-51 Mustang was built as a kit by Aero Vodochody (sp?) – the same company that built the L-39 Albatross….

I wondered whether someone got their wires crossed there??

Wasn’t there a Gee Bee replica flying in The Rocketeer? Or am I mistaken?
