The Official F1 Thread

i feel we should have this a thread for talking about f1 and what lies ahead like the new regulations,

most i disagree with but one i like and that is that the driver is now allowed to choose their own number which can be between 1 and 99 i think this will mean that people will beable to recognise the driver better

Stopping any coverage at all on “terrestrial” channels, will be the end of F1.

Well you pay a tax for your TV, whether you watch the BBC or not, but the revenue goes to the BBC. And you have no choice in the matter. So Pay TV by force, I suppose!!;)

Thought I’d dig this thread up and give it a kick.

Once upon a time…well, yesterday actually:

Formula 1 drivers have demanded change at the top of the sport, saying its decision-making process is “obsolete and ill-structured”.

Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) directors Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel and Alex Wurz have written a letter on behalf of the drivers.

It urges the owners and stakeholders of F1 to” restructure its governance”…

…It claims that some recent decisions are “disruptive”, avoid “the bigger issues” and “could jeopardise F1’s success”…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/35882820

One of which is…

…the move towards pay TV, which is at the centre of declining audiences…

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/35882820

Well, gosh. Trying to remember what was announced today.

Oh yes…:

Formula 1 will no longer be shown on terrestrial television from 2019 after Sky Sports announced it had agreed an exclusive deal to broadcast the sport.

Makes you wonder if they knew something was in the pipeline, doncha think?

I hadn’t even realised there was a GP last weekend, until I saw the result.

If anyone watched the Singapore Grand Prix…

SINGAPORE – A man was charged in court on Tuesday (Sept 22) with committing a rash act by crossing the Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix track on Sunday while the race was on.

No plea was taken from Briton Yogvitam Pravin Dhokia, 27.

He is accused of the rash act to endanger the safety of the Formula One drivers involved in the race near Turn 13 along Esplanade Drive at about 9pm that day.

A “rash act”? He’d have been jam if he’d been hit by one of the cars…

Just picked up on your question Alan. My son and I used to go to Silverstone, as it coincided with my Birthday,But I havn’t bothered to watch it ont telly for a couple of years, far to many restrictions imposed on Teams. The sooner that little sh*te Eccleston leaves the sport, the better for everyone.

Porsche’s trio of 919 Hybrids will start this weekend’s Le Mans 24 Hours from the top three positions of the grid after
maintaining their supremacy in final qualifying. Audi taking the next three places.
Could this be the end of Audi’s dominance over the last few years ? It could all be down to reliability.

Although I was told that Audi, and some of the other cars were concentrating more on setup, than qualifying
positions. On a 24hr race, grid positions don’t really mean a lot.

Having been to the Silverstone WEC round this year and following such racing for years I think this is a golden era of Sportscar racing; manufacturers coming in, fantastic looking and sounding cars, the different classes, and true proper and close racing (Silverstone had 3 cars swapping the lead 5 and a half hours into a 6 hour race). It’s not boring at all, I personally find it more exciting than F1 nowadays.

Never an easy race to televise and maintain interest and so different from being there in the flesh. And had it all become a bit processional? Are the various classes of car as diverse and interesting as I remember from a long while back? Or is that just nostalgia for the great Jaguar years?;)

It’s the Le Mans 24hr race this weekend. Full coverage on Eurosport. (Doesn’t get a mention on the BBC.)

I spotted in the TV listings mag that one of the free-to-view channels (“Quest”?) has a number of live broadcasts of the event, including race start and finish, and a number of slots during the race. I presume each slot will start with a summary of points of interest that have happened since their last broadcast…

I seem to remember it was also streamed on t’internet last year too…
