To all Forum Members,
if you could pick the content of an airshow, to be the perfect airshow for you which 5 aircraft would you like to see display? it has to realistic and the aircraft must be currently airworthy. Actually let’s have two lists, one realistic and one dream event where you can pick any aircraft from the history of aviation. Just a bit of fun, who’s first?

Real:
The Hawker Fury I at Old Warden on a perfect evening. Still not sure I’m ever going to see it fly.
The Vulcan, on its final display, with all the fatigue life preservation measures thrown to the four winds, doing Falk-esque rolls, max-speed passes and generally being flown to the limits of its envelope.
All the flyable Hunters gathered to to recreate the famous 22-aircraft loop, plus a massive balbo and tailchase.
All the flyable Bf109es, all four Spit 1s and (hopefully) three or four Hurricane Is at Duxford for the 75th anniversary next year.
The Sea Vixen. I just seem to miss it every single time!
Fantastical:
Three or four V-bomber QRA scramble. Full take off sequence, with pilots running to the aircraft, quick engine starts and sequenced take-offs, all inside five minutes!
Lightning. Doing anything. But a nice vertical depart with burners lit would be nice.
Some early-war or interwar heavy bombers-anything from B-17c or d, Martin B-10, early Do.17, Wellington, Hampden, etc.
Hawker Tempest V
John Derry, Neville Duke, John Cunningham and contemporaries in a period Farnborough, complete with close passes, sonic booms and the thrill of new and secret technology.

Re Post #11
With you all the way Moggy, wouldn’t matter what they were flying, they’d each give a brilliant display.
Given the ability to time travel I’d also add Alex Henshaw (to display an early mark Spitfire) a youthful Winkle Brown (to display a selection of WW2 German types such as a Do335, Me163, Me262, He219 and Fw Ta154), Harald Penrose in a Whirlwind and Welkin, plus Roly Falk to roll a Vulcan, Mike Lithgow in a Swift, Bill Waterton in a Gloster Javelin, Bee Beamont in a TSR2, and Neville Duke in a Hunter :-).
And the venue would have to be Farnborough, with the Black sheds and old control tower still standing.
Dream on….
Ooops, just reaalised I had to limit myself to 5, so:-
Winkle Brown – Fw Ta152
Harald Penrose – Westland Whirlwind
Bill Waterton – Gloster Javelin
Mike Lithgow – Supermarine Swift
Bee Beamont – TSR2

Real :
1. Harrier (was always one of, if not MOST favourite display)
2. Vulcan (doing one of it’s more intense displays)
3. Mosquito
4. B52 (still haven’t managed to see one flying in the flesh)
5. B29 (assuming one is still airworthy?)
Picking a dream one is difficult, as being born as recently as ’91 there is a LOT of aircraft I wish I could have seen flying but I’ll go with…
1. Concorde (I never did see it fly in the flesh, it flew over the car once apparently when I was a baby fast asleep in my car seat)
2. Lancaster/Stirling/Halifax formation
3. Vulcan/Victor/Valiant formation
4. Sunderland
5. EE Lightning

What everyone else says, plus having the sun behind you. Sitting on a gently sloping bank, so
nobody is impairing your view.
And with an ice cream in hand

I know it would never happen, but would love to see racing legends, eg Strega, rare bear etc, turn up in the mysterious containers at Duxford in early July. Can only imagine the speed and noise. Can’t afford to get to Reno…

The perfect show:
– Announcers that know when to shut up. I would rather hear a merlin/jet/radial at full chat, than someone drone on about the “plane that won the war”…
– Intimate atmospehere. Walk up to planes before/after they fly- Close to the flight line. No ropes/barriers. See them start up close.
– Mix of jets, rotors, cold war and world war II airplanes. Less interested in golden age and before.
– An absence of “stunt” flying. I could care less about wing walkers, low level aerobatics, Pitts, extras, etc. I use that time to walk the static.
– An absence of alternate attractions. I could care less about jumpy inflatables, simulators, live music, loud radio stations. Re-enactors, vehicles, etc just fine.
– large and diverse flying and static.
– Unique/rare aircraft. I will go out of my way to see a rare (or one I have not seen before) aircraft fly or be in static.
I recognize that not all share my opnions! 🙂
Top 5 present: Meteor, Il-2, Vulcan, F-104, P-38 (first 3 because I have never seen them fly)
Top 5 dream: B-58, B-36, JU-87 Stuka, Large dirigible (Macon/Hindenberg), Typhoon (prop)
