A woman blown into a concrete wall after standing behind the jet engines of a departing aircraft has had her painful experience broadcast on the internet.
New footage posted on Youtube shows the woman and a man clinging to a fence at Maho Beach in Saint Martin as a Jet Blue plane takes off from the adjacent Princess Juliana International Airport.
The man is blown back onto the popular tourist beach within seconds.
However, the woman clings on for longer before being lifted off her feet and propelled face first into a low concrete wall.

On Mythbusters there is a lovely bit of footage of a school bus being destroyed by a 747.The bus is at about 6.30.
That’s insane. Really demonstrates the kind of force a jet engine can produce! I’m surprised more people haven’t been injured at Princess Juliana International Airport.

No mention has been made as to the severity of her injuries. Could be anything from mild concussion to a broken neck.

What annoys me, is that they have risked the council imposing strict restrictions on this area! Like cutting off that section of the beach.
Agreed. The sign is quite clear, but the incident will probably change the way security is run in the area – hopefully it won’t detract from the beauty of the location or the spectacle of being that close to a jet! This article Beach Airport Security Boost After Jet-Blast Incident seems to suggest that measures are already being taken to close off the area 🙁 I’ve got holiday coming up, maybe I’ll get myself and my camera over there before it’s too late!

Ouch!!!!!! That looked very painful! Nice ar$e on the woman running to her aid though… :diablo:
But seriously though, I can just imagine her boyfriend had said, “come on, it’ll be a right laugh…”

Everybody is warned about this, the sign below is at each end of the ‘strip’, not all aircraft actualy go that close to the road !

There should be sufficient space behind the plane such that the general public can’t get caught in it.

The jet engine takes no prisoners, at either end!

The you tube videos of St Martin where the jet blast renders some women topless are quite good! :diablo:

Doesn’t have to be a jet. I was at a show at Coventry a few years ago,
when the Air Atlantique DC-4 blew over some fencing and onlookers.

I’ve seen jet blast knock over a cargo trailer and a few people at Pointe Noire airport. But yes, Tenthije, you can’t fix stupid.

Not sure what’s the greater power here. The power of jetblast or the power of stupidity.
